You might have known before, but boxing fans have been eating up protected unbeaten records for years.
Well I think Benavidez v Morrell did better PPV numbers than Izzy v that guy that beat him on the night, a lot of UFC cards are really poor, I don`t know if the average UFC card is doing good PPV numbers. The saudi cards have pumped new life into boxing and Turki is involved in the UFC now too.
De La Hoya generated approximately $700 million in pay-per-view income, making him the top pay-per-view earner before being surpassed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
Wrestling was struggling in the 90`s until the NWO were created in 96. All in all, 1995 is definitely a year WWF fans and officials alike want to forget. Business tanked, the product in large part stunk (although the Raws are very watchable, if somewhat unremarkable), the direction was awful, the decision making saw ten misses for even the remotest hit.
lol! UFC fighters are far better than kickboxers, the best kick boxers in the UFC have been Periera and Izzy and Izzy just picked up his fourth loss a few days ago, you need to be well-rounded in the UFC, early UFC champs would be destroyed by today`s UFC champs.
The Saudi´s can´t carry the entire sport. There is a hole in the American market that needs to be filled.
That’s casual boxing fans or people new to the sport. Boxing is and continues to be the pinnacle of combat sports…this is due to the strong history and specialism in striking with fists, the most exciting part of combat sports. it takes a lot to be an undefeated champion. Fa s playing that down also causes harm. Remember the company ufc is relatively new and has a monopoly on mma…boxing is too big to have a monopoly, it’s developed further than mma. in years to come, if mma continues to grow, other large promotional companies/organisations etc may challenge ufc and then mma will be in the same boat boxing is now. With fighters being more in charge of their careers and having options to choose which shows they fight on. In boxing, it’s about the boxers. in MMA it’s about the promotional outfit, UFC I do fear with things like Turkis 5v5 type stuff may move British boxing into being about the promotional outfit instead of the boxers.
If MMA was truly bigger than boxing, the Saudis would be making moves into it. The fact that they're not is telling. They're not getting into sports out of the love for it, it's to improve their national image and promote tourism. UFC is pretty big, but it seems to have stagnated and the other MMA promotions seem to be digging into the UFC, not boxing.
A big boxing event will always get a bigger audience, money, promotion and attention than the biggest UFC fights.
