Mike Tyson vs Jersey Joe Walcott primes

Tyson by ko. Easy job for Mike, sorry..even Tyson post prison too

 

I like Joe a lot, he was not a "journeyman" no matter what anyone says. However he just can't beat Mike IMO. Prime Tyson gets him out of there within 3, post-prison Tyson struggles a bit more but gets him out in 6-7 rounds.

 

I'm a fan of Walcott but Tyson KO's him every time. It would be like the Marciano rematch, fast, first round.

Jersey Joe here is in deep trouble.
Simply put he has never dealt with something like Tyson's explosive lightning attacks.

Maybe he survives somehow up to the middle rounds, but I am not betting on it.

 

Same here, I love Walcott but he can't withstand the power of Tyson. He had a lot of trouble with Marciano's power, that same power but with the speed that Tyson brings, their is no hope for my man Walcott

 

I'll be in the minority and go with Jersey Joe in a late stoppage. (It would have to be a peak trained and conditioned Walcott--the Walcott that faced Joe Louis the first time comes to mind.)

Tyson never had Rocky's stamina. He would start out blazing fast as usual but Walcott was a VERY clever boxer who I believe would use all the tricks to thwart Tyson's early charge. Eventually, Mike tires and Walcott goes to work on him.

 

A fading Joe Louis is not on the level of a prime Mike Tyson. And even then Joe Louis still knocked out Jersey Joe Walcott in the rematch so thats not the best argument.

I also hear this all the time "Tyson never had the best stamina" but its completely false.

Tyson went the distance with huge punching Razor Ruddock in a war of attrition and showed good stamina there.

Outside of Ruddock mostly everyone who went the distance with Tyson was looking to survive so that's not a Tyson issue that's his opponents not fighting to win.

Jersey Joe Walcott's longest winning streak was 1 year and he was winning/losing fights even in his prime.

I fail to see how a much smaller outboxer is going to stop the rampaging Tyson the speed and power difference is lopsided here.

 

I can't deny that--but I still think Walcott's technical ring savvy and conditioning would be enough to neutralize Tyson's early onslaught. If Jersey Joe can survive the first 4-5 rounds his chances go up considerably. Tyson never exhibited great stamina which would be a definite handicap in this hypothetical matchup.

 

When Tyson needed to go the distance he did it comfortably though so how was his stamina not the best ? What are you basing this on ?

Before Tyson went to prison he went the distance 5 times including a 10th round stoppage over Ribalta.

10 round UD over Green

10 round UD over Tillis

12 round UD over Bonecrusher

12 round UD over Tucker

12 round UD over Ruddock

And how many late stoppages has Walcott had ? Looking at his resume I don't see any real notable late stoppages during his prime years.

So I think it's bit baffling you've come to the conclusion that Walcott stops an ATG Heavyweight with considerable size advantage when Walcott never really had any late stoppages in his career.

Even more baffling when Walcott's record over 10 rounds is 1-4.

 

I agree swarmer, Joe was no journey man, he was much more than that.

 

Mike's mid range pressure style is poison for Jersey Joe Walcott. I think this would look a lot like Mike Tyson vs. the Larry Holmes he fought. I will go with Mike Tyson by knockout in the early rounds.
