Event promoter Issrar "Izzy" Asif just put on a several minute rambling soliloquy about how knife violence is bad, and how the whole UK starting with the audience here tonight really ought to make an effort to "not have it happen again, let's".

He wants everybody to "put down the knives and pick up the gloves" to resolve disputes. He says boxing changed his life and has done for countless others. (I just checked BoxRec, he was a 3-1 cruiserweight about fourteen years ago)

Then instead of a normal ten bell salute for the recent local stabbing victims, they have the audience conduct a two-minute group clap. Blimey.

 

Shakan Pitters vs. Bahadur Karami, 8 rounds @ light heavyweight

 

Bahadur "The Freedom Fighter" Karami (an Iranian turned Mancunian) steps in as the fourth scheduled opponent for Pitters in half as many days.

Originally this was Pitters vs. Daniel Blenda Dos Santos for the vacant EBU light heavyweight title. DBDS withdrew on Wednesday, and the card organizers pivoted to bring in Lee Ingelrest, an undefeated Belgian who apparently was ranked highly enough to still have it be for the belt. Then yesterday Ingelrest was replaced with English journeyman Michael "Mickey" Ellison, with the bout demoted from main event status and changed to an 8-rounder. THIS AFTERNOON, it was changed from Ellison to Karami.

Why is Pitters so insistent upon fighting on this date? Well, his dad passed away last month and his mind is set upon dedicating a victory to him. Pretty admirable tbh.

 

Round 1

Pitters is stepping in and willingly trading right hands with Karami, scoring first with his snappier extension and longer arms, making it so Karami's never reaches target or grazes at best. Pitters also laying a jab on his opponent's brow while circling, and reaching down and dropping in the occasional left hook on the liver.

Granted it's versus a sub coming in literally on hours' notice (Karami was in training, at least - to face Scottish prospect Darren Johnstone in Glasgow next Friday) but Pitters looks very sharp. Puts his shots together very nicely, good range control...

 

Round 2

Pitters mixing in hooks & uppercuts now, and you can feel Karami starting to break down. Huge perfectly-timed right cross by Pitters with a little over a minute left and Karami goes down hard. Ref gives him a chance to show a little gumption but Karami gets his clock thoroughly cleaned until being rescued.

Shakan's late father was himself a fighter, I just learned from the commentators. Colin "Shaka Dan" Pitters, a Midlands middleweight in the nineties.

 

Issrar Asif says he is very confident that Pitters will eventually defeat the likes of Yarde and Buatsi, although first things first he needs to reschedule for that European title and progress at the correct pace to be ready when he gets there. Says he'll be in action no later than April.

 

Okay, this Jack Catterall "why do people think I'm boring? I'm a fun guy " commercial is pretty damn funny.

The ringside pundits being refreshingly honest, saying Thompson shouldn't get carried away or be tossed into the deep end coming off a victory over River Wilson-Bent. They say he's a good 18 months away from being ready for Alimkhanuly.
