Cooney will show nothing that Moore hasn't already seen and can't deal with in his sleep. Moore will find a way to land hard shots immediately and will inevitably stop him.
Moore would beat the versions of Cooney who fought Spinks and foreman. I’m not so sure about the one from 1979-1982. I will say that Moore did a good job taking apart the hard punching Alejandro Lavorante who stood 6’4” and weighed over 200lbs. But I don’t know how good he was.
Yeah. I want to bet on Moore here but I'm uncertain how older guys would face talented super heavyweights- I feel like Cooney is poison for a decent bit of them not only due to his strength, but also due to his ability to really slash with his uppercuts. It's the same reason that I've picked against Quarry when putting these two up against each other, I don't think that Gerry is the better fighter, but he may not need to be.
Plus Archie was a slow starter and it could took many rounds for him to start his engine. I'd still think that if he survives the super white hope uppercut blast from Cooney he'd make him go mayday.
Yeah, but that's a very big if. Cooney didn't have a great engine, but that early version of him could actually last a while (he had only gone a full 8 rounds previously to fighting Holmes, but then nearly went a full 13). I feel like we were robbed of a lot of potentially exciting bouts with him due to how money hungry his managing team was. I wouldn't bet against Archie, but I wouldn't bet for him, either. It's a very risky game for both men.
