Fights where a fighter was well in control but suddenly the contest got away from them in a bit of a sustained fashion before losing rather than a one punch knockout.
Michael Carbajal vs Mauricio Pastrana first fight that comes to mind. I haven't seen it in like 20+ years but Carbajal let that fight get away and lost a decision.
Tor Hamer vs Glazkov Tor Hamer vs Andy Ruiz Both times Hamer shamelessly quit. Afther just one tough round.
AJ v Ruiz Jr was the biggest capitulation in recent times. AJ in complete control, got a huge KD. Then he got clipped once and was ultimately ground down round after round until he quit. What makes it so dramatic is that AJ was massive in comparison, far more powerful and also far fitter, so if anyone had the chance to recover from adversity in that fight it should have been him. This comparison will hurt AJ fans but if we compare to Fury it's amazing. We all know the Wilder recoveries from him. But the Usyk fight also, Fury took a series of huge clean shots after the big left, more than AJ took in the entire Ruiz fight. And Fury came back and was competitive. Also Wilder in the second fight with Fury, he took that big 'head dent' shot and lost his senses (similar to what AJ complained of with the temple shot), but Wilder kept struggling away until they had to stop it, he never actually tried to find a way out.
He was getting beaten but it appeared at least to me that Dubois kinda capitulated against Usyk. If Daniel bas corrected that weakness in his game (which it appears he might’ve now done so), Dubois would be that bit tougher for Olek if they ever rematch. DLH vs Chavez II. IMO, JC put on an act when he displayed disappointment at the stoppage - rather, I think JC simply wanted out. Tyson vs Carl Williams. After he got dumped by the left hook, I think Carl also thought twice about continuing. He acted slightly incognisant, failing to adhere to the ref’s directives - BUT, when the fight was stopped, Carl was immediately able to put a LOT of clear headed effort into protesting the stoppage - lol. Jersey Joe Walcott appeared to capitulate in the Marciano rematch. After getting dropped early, it’s not hard to imagine Old Joe thinking “There’s no way I’m going through that (their first fight) again”. Somewhat understandable, I think.
The king of machismo quitting was unbelievable ,younger fans just don’t understand you had to be there.
Duran was competitive and won some rounds in Leonard-Duran II but at no stage was Duran in control of the fight.
