Jake Paul kis a bigger star than most active boxers as are Roy Jones and Mike Tyson, there was so much interest in that exxibition because it was two old legends clashing, there are no active fighters as famous as Mike Tyson is, there will never be another boxer that has that kind of global impact, the nearest since was Manny and Floyd.
I hear pickleball is growing too. That doesn't change what I said until soccer or some such similar overtakes the popular sports. The most popular sports in the highest market are shrinking.
I` from the UK I was talking globally not specifically the US, soccer is one of the most popular sports worldwide and always has been.
It's tougher to track boxing buys in streaming apps but I believe they are doing well by most reports. And for the first time in a while, Boxing has **** all over UFC in exciting match ups at least. Big fan of both sports. I think boxing and MMA both compliment each other well with many cross over spectators.
My bad bro, that's fair. Looking at things you were a bit misleading by saying Soccer isn't dying because it is growing. Little did I know it's the single most popular sport world wide and has experienced growth losses since 2015, only maintaining growth through the exploitation of poor countries. FIFA kinda ****ed huh? I didn't know, but yeah bud check it out, they too are expressing concerns because they're not doing as well as projected. Clearly I don't really know TF I'm talking about, but, I think esports and such nonsense have a lot to do with it. Kids watch fortnight dances on tiktok.
Is this a rebuttal or are you just informing me of things we all already know. Nothing I post contradicts the statement you made here.
The fights are great from a sheer action/entertainment perspective, but its very low level. Its basically a destination for 40 year old ex- B level MMA fighters.
No. Riyadh didn't choose boxing over MMA by mistake. The only thing is that MMA is the sport that is currently experiencing the greatest expansion.
I heard Turkyi bragging in an interview that he has brought boxing from the #13 sport in America to #9. It's a start. Maybe if Torrez is successful, or someone else come out of nowhere, it can regain some footing.
I don't think it's a flex for boxing that they need to be saved by the Saudis for it to thrive. It pretty much reveals that boxing is a money grab and that its only merit is that it's good for business so that rich millionaires can watch it live. if the other countries aren't able to watch it live and get regular ppl in seats than who's their demographic?
Every country watches those cards live, are you insane?! Are you talking about tyhe timezone difference? They're heavily involved in MMA too. They had a big UFC card there 2 weeks ago, that Sphere event last year was branded as being part of Riyadh season, Ngannous PFL fight and the PFL vs Bellator card took place in Saudi as well. Granted its not like boxing where the biggest fights pretty much by default take place in Saudi now, but I wouldnt say the Saudis "picked" boxing over MMA. If anything the UFC being a multi billion dollar company probably allows them to resist Turkis money a little better, knowing that holding practically every major fight in Saudi would probably be a bad idea for them. I'm sure if it was up to Turki Saudi would be having stuff like UFC 300, every Poatan, Jon Jones etc card.
