You’re putting yourself in knots here. according to your statement , Ortiz was officially number 5 in the division when wilder beat him. According to your own statement Only fury Whyte and AJ were higher options. like I said earlier, get almost anyone’s resume and people can rip it apart. actually, many do rip apart fury’s aj’s and whytes too. So even beating one of them is no achievement according to your thought process. I’ve lived in the boxing business since a young age, my personal opinion is irrelevant as is yours. fact is, wilder had a 5 year reign and 10 defences against top 15ranked opponents, with around 6 being fighters who have been in the Ring Top 10. He is finished now so he loses, just like Roy jones and every other fighter who continues past their date
He was a bogeyman the same way Martin Bakole today is the division's bogeyman. Now if Bakole spends the rest of his career fighting non-entities while calling everyone out he'll be in the same position as Ortiz is today.
Yes that’s one way to look at it, everyone is wrong except some irrelevant guys on a forum. The official organisations are wrong because the irrelevant guys on a forum say so. You guys should start your own organisation if you want to be taken seriously. Then you can retrospectively change your past rankings of a person based on their future performances or hypothetical situations
Do you know how boxing works? Chisora was forced to fight top guys because he was treated as a high level journeyman/gate keeper, that’s all he was meant to be. a prospect or champ does not follow a journeyman’s journey.
The Ring Magazine has never got the rankings wrong ever I'm sure. How they could elevate Ortiz to 5 when he fought no one in the top 10 until Wilder makes zero sense.
Yes, it’s not a requirement. Your top 10 were AJ, Fury, Wilder, Whyte, Ortiz, Povetkin, J-Parker, Jarrell Miller, Kownacki, Pulev how many of them beat how many of the others in that top 10? although that becomes irrelevant when wilder does so becomes irrelevant when others do, if we are being fair
And yet he has multiple good wins and close fights against fighters Wilder never wanted to go near. What he was meant to be is clearly not what he is now becoming perceived as. Wilder on the other hand is being shown as exactly what he was accused of being.
Neither did fury, miller, kownacki, whyte, Parker, pov or pulev at the time. Shall we discredit them too?
Chisora is what he was meant to be, he just got popular is all and is a ticket seller. So he gets what he wants. I don’t think anyone seriously perceives Chisora as a prospect or world champ level, not even himself. He’s not dumb like the people on this forum, he knows what he is doing
Except Povetkin and Pulev both fought the Champion before in Wladimir Klitschko. Parker fought AJ that year and fought Ruiz, who was ranked the prior two years. Whyte fought AJ. I'll give you Kownacki and Miller but they both proved to be busts, just like Ortiz. Ortiz was ranked for some reason in the top 10 from 2015-2018 with only fight against one fighter who was ever ranked in the top 10 (Jenning #8 in 2015). It shows you how flawed the rankings are. There is no way you can have Ortiz above Povetkin, yet he was.
