No, he’s right. You don’t have to accept The Ring’s rankings. They’re an opinion piece put out by a magazine, not anything objective. Also, the rankings argument has a fundamental issue in that it fails to account for the fact that fighters with superior resumes can be below others due to a recent loss, or that a fighter can be high in the rankings not because they have a good resume, but because the other fights have an even worse resume. The fact is, Ortiz and Stiverne have terrible resumes, regardless of where they were ranked.
You're going off the deep end now. I literally have no idea what you're arguing about anymore. Anyway, Chisora is greater than Wilder. There's that.
And they were both part of the Klitschko era, how's that hating? Fury at least fought some noteworthy contenders.
You've twisted yourself in knots here. Like I said, every single boxing fan had Ortiz in the top 5. Years later pretending the victory has no meaning is a bit silly.
The guy literally just said he accepts and uses the ring rankings. But only when it suits. I agree though, they are not official but the main recognised and respected opinion piece as a wbc champion, this champion must follow the wbc rankings and rules. he doesn’t have a point, rankings at the time are just that, at the time, not a career ranking. For example, a recent loss does send you down the list as in boxing your only as good as your last fight.
sorry think I was part replying to someone else too. they were at the end of klit era wilder/fury wasnt really champion at the same time as klit and he retired straight after they did win. who did fury fight that were noteworthy contenders?
Chisora is the most obvious answer here. Hammer and Cunningham are some good names also. Meanwhile the best name on Wilder's resume before winning the belt was Malik Scott.
What about after winning the belt? Hammer and Cunningham are not relevant at hw. Chisora he’s beat 3 times for no reason other than he “wants to give him a pay day”.
That's no longer a Klitschko era, is it? But even after winning the belt, Wilder & Whyte > Ortiz & Ortiz. Still better scalps than Malik Scott.
If Parker beats Dubois there will be a thread asking if he should be ranked ahead of Fury pretty confident.
And if Dubois beats Parker, he will have the greatest run in the heavyweight division in the last 10 years second only to Usyk.
If Uysk doesn't win both his next 2 fights the same. But to be honest I am hoping Uysk just wins both and that doesn't happen then he retires before he gets a chance of losing. Discussion will be completely flipped.
Whyte is ahead of Ortiz though in terms of career wins. He beat Parker, Rivas and Chisora while Ortiz only beat Jennings Zhang was in his 40s vs Wilder how could he be at his peak?
Itauma hasn't beaten anyone good but I would favor him over many people with better wins. Hence ratings are subjective
