Bivol`s KO rate is poor, Benavidez has a slightly longer reach than Bivol too, he also has a lovely hook.
Benavidez KO rate at 175 (Bivol's division) is 0%. Bivol arguably hits harder since unlike Benavidez he actually has hurt and stopped real light heavyweights before.
Yeah but Benavidez is showcasing Maligaggi power at 175. Any proof of Benavidez showing any kind of power you could provide is at 168 and even then its guys he dragged up from 154 and 160. Bivol trumps that easily.
I'm pretty sure Bivol has very fast hands of his own and fast feet too I'm also pretty sure he's one of the best combination punchers out there Has one of the best jabs in the game And is one of the best defensive fighters in the sport who literally gets hit less than almost everyone else Hell, he even ranks above Benavidez on the Compubox plus minus rankings But we're just supposed to ignore all that just like we were supposed to before he schooled Clenelo without needing to move of 2nd gear all night Interestingly the 3-5lb heavier Bivol was ''too big'' for Clenelo and that's the only reason he won the fight, but we won't hear a peep about size if the 196lb Benavidez were to beat a 182-184lb Bivol Bivol is not going to stand right in front of Benavidez like a clueless moron eating shots like Morrell did. He'd actually use his skills, his footwork, and the ring I think it's an excellent and intriguing match up but if Benavidez was actually the same size as Bivol as opposed to way bigger it would certainly tilt the balance heavily in Bivol's favour. And in Benavidez's own words Bivol has one of the hardest right hands he's felt and he ranks his power as a 8-8.5 out of 10. ''The thing about Bivol is not only is he a good boxer he's a strong fighter. He has a lot of power and I know that personally because I've sparred him'' --David Benavidez
Watching these highlights Benavidez really doesn't do anything better than Bivol at all. Even activity/work rate Bivol could easily do that too if he wanted to but he just chooses not to and prefers to be more defensively minded. But its not like he couldn't do it if he felt like it his handspeed and combinations are absolutely blinding when they get going. Benavidez isn't even taller than Bivol he's just fatter and possibly going bald.
So how did he keep Beterbiev off and arguably win? Beterbiev threw more punches at Bivol than Benavidez did towards Morell and Beterbiev has more power than David. Benavidez couldn't even knock out Plant who was stopped by Canelo a single fight prior.
One of the reasons I was so ticked off about this rematch getting made is if Bivol won it'd mess everything up. And lo and behold it has messed everything up. I wanted to see Beterbiev v Benavidez. Less interest in Bivol v Benavidez and even less interest in a trilogy fight between Bivol and Beterbiev.
The first Bivol Beterbiev fight was too close and competitive for them to not do an immediate rematch. Benavidez was already focused on fighting Morrell after the Canelo fight didn’t come through. It would have been less ideal for Beterbiev to win a second time as it would have denied the fans a third and last fight in the rivalry. I personally don’t think Benavidez should risk a career beating at the hands of Beterbiev had he fought him. Stylistically Beterbiev is all wrong for him even at his age.
