I couldn't watch all the fight but I remember he started well then Ortiz brought him into the trenches and nothing was the same after despite being a fairly competitive scrap with some users scoring it as a draw. I would love to see him competing for the silver with Bohachuk since the fight was cancelled and rematch Ortiz. I read some users, rightfully, pointed out that he needs to be both less negative with all those feints and act less like an amateur to please the judges but honestly I fw his style. Props to him for going against all those giants back-to-back instead of looking for subpar competition to inflate his record.
He’s got everything he needs for a really successfully career. Issue is, I think, flying a bit too close to the sun for his limited pro experience level. Stay active, 3 fights a year, starting with guys one rung down. Another 10 fights or so and he’s ready to beat the elites.
he’s talented but he needs a rethink of his style. he’s the most energy inefficient boxer ever. in a 12 round title fight you don’t have to be shuffling and jerking like Michael Jackson from the opening bell.
At 30, Madrimov has likely hit his ceiling. I think there is certainly room for refinement or fine-tuning, but I think any future improvements will be largely at the margins. While Madrimov can and likely will beat some quality 154lbers, I suspect he'll fail against the division's highest echelon (the Crawfords and Ortizs of the world, if you will).
How do you think he fares against Murta and Bohachuk? Do you think he should have fought Bohachuk last November instead of fighting Virgil yesterday?
He lost to a P4P top 5 fighter by a hair, and perhaps one of the Top 3 most promising young fighters on the planet, by a hair. You're an idiot.
Fighting heavy handed elite fighters who counter exceptionally well tend to have that effect on most opponents.
I wonder if he can get down to welterweight, he looks small for a light middle. And weight bully ortiz looked like a middleweight last night. It looked like middleweight vs welterweight
Great questions. While I believe Bohachuk could grind him down late with attritional/volume punching, I think Madrimov is just awkward and savvy enough (and his beard seems sturdy) to frustrate the Ukrainian and get a close decision. Bohachuk isn't as fluid or as explosive as Ortiz, and that could give Madrimov the margin he needs to win. I don't feel great about that prediction, however. Honestly, I don't know if I've seen enough of Murta just yet. Gun to my head, however, I'd have to pick Madrimov because I think he's more battle tested.
he doesn’t have enough pro experience. He’s got 5 years left minimum. He’s not going to achieve Canelo heights or anything, but I don’t see why he can’t grab a belt at some point and make enough to retire comfortably. For his limited pro experience, he’s incredible.
