Wilder isn't even as good as Axel Schulz. Schulz was robbed in three straight championship fights against three guys that would be Wilders best win.

 

Because these people need to justify how pretend great Marciano was . These are the same people who say Mike Tyson never fought anybody the praise Marciano for fighting old men. Mob controlled fighter, and tomato cans and even then took a long time to stop them

This wasn't true when it was written. Valuev, Gibbons and a few others got further than 40-0. 40-0 still is uncommon but its not number 3 all time.

 

Not sure why a nearly decade-old post got bumped. (Some of you guys just can't move on from Wilder, I guess.)

But, I just popped in to say it WAS true back then.

Valuev certainly came close, but he had a no-contest on his record early on. Gibbons was never a heavyweight champion.

A heavyweight champion reaching 40-0, which Wilder did, is a big deal.

We're a quarter of the way thru this century already, and nobody is remotely close to equalling it.

Wilder is the only heavyweight champ to get to 40-0 in the 21st Century. And only two did it in the 20th Century.

When someone else gets there, wake me up. (I'm all argued out on the subject of Wilder.)

But we're decades away from that happening again ... if it ever does.

 

Boxing rec says Valuev was 46-0 before he lost to Chagaev, Tunney was 47-0 before losing to Greb and Foreman was 40-0 before losing to Ali. Toney shouldn't count as a HW champ but he was also 44-0. Thats 5 or 6 other HW champs who did it among whom Wilder only got further than Foreman.

Tommy Gibbons and Jack Root weren't HW champs but they both did it. Gibbons is the all time leader among contenders/champs at 52.
