I was trying to think of cases where a fighter went down without taking a punch (although Davis did take a punch earlier that the knockdown could be considered a delayed reaction) and the Mayweather fight where he broke his hand was the only one I could think of.

My boxing knowledge is great, so apologies for the silly question.

Could the judges have scored the round 10-8 even though the knockdown werent called? Or does the ref HAVE to call the knockdown?

Really, the ref must call it.

Wtf, he looks to the corner then takes a knee. Did someone bet huge on "Davis takes a knee in round 9" or what?

Pretty egregious stuff. It was something from a Sven Ottke fight.

Did you see him take the knee? Just like Floyd did against Hernandez?

Tank did win that round, I believe. The judges can't score the KD if the ref didn't call it.

The difference between the likes of Floyd and his son Tank is that when they took a knee they got up and won unlike Oscar De La Hoya and his son Garcia they stayed down and got counted out.

That's on Steve Willis, though. If the ref determines there wasn't an official knockdown, you as the judge are not allowed to "correct" that by awarding the round automatically to whichever boxer you think was robbed of a KD; it's basically stricken from the record. You do your job, and judge the other 2 minutes and fifty-whatever seconds of the round on their merit.

The round 100% should have been 10-8 for Roach, don't get me wrong - but the party fully to blame for it not being scored correctly is the referee, not the judges.
