"Hello again I'm Jim Lampley" God do I miss HBO Boxing. Lampley is a great commentator and I'm glad to see him returning.
I'm old. I remember listening to Lampley and Alex Wallau calling boxing fights on ABC. I remember him replacing replacing Barry Thompkins for his first time on HBO announcing the Tubbs-Tyson fight
What? In the decades he has called fights he seems to have learnt nothing. Lampley is like the rest of the commentators who feel the need to be heard even though a former world champion could be sitting next to them.
Whoa! Probably just a nostalgia thing for me, but awesome! if I can bring up nostalgia…. When Turki gets Michael Buffer out there for the main event. God damn. He’s like 137 or something, but he still sounds the same. I remember being a kid sitting next to my dad — who was much younger then than I am now!!! — hearing “let’s get ready to rumble!!!!”. And now, I’m a middle aged man and my dad is an old man, and we still watch fights introduced by him. It’s crazy. Absolutely love it. However much Turki has to pay him to show up, worth every cent. Hey, isn’t Larry Merchant still around? I believe he may be 237 at this point, but he might show up for a paycheck and a bottle of vodka disguised as a water bottle. Get him back too.
What a bad day for Lampley to make a comeback on such an uninspiring boxing card. Hopefully he gets another shot at commenting another card that guarantees excitement.
