This content is protected Mike says what I feel. He didn't even blast or judge them on the rest of their career, but believed at his best he beats both I agree, he was a shooting star that didn't last long, like george best in football or an R9 But in his prime? I believe he f..ks up Aj and usyk. Fury too
Usyk in the first AJ fight is probably my favourite performance from him, just constant activity and movement and against a good super heavy. I don’t think anyone gets that version of him out in the first.
Of all hypothetical match-ups for Usyk, Tyson from Berbick to Spinks is the one I like the least. However, I maintain that with his unique package of skills, Usyk has a chance against anyone. Good fight, and Tyson has every right to think he would have won.
Very interesting matchup , unfortunetly we will never know . Most probably the `86-88 version of mike would indeed crush both early but on the other hand i,m not sure if ( talking usyk ) mike ever faced such a skilled southpaw .
Like he KO1 buster douglas - he was in his prime then wasn’t he? Look I respect all these guys who get in the ring - I couldn’t do it but anything can happen on a night. Hypotheticals are just that let’s not get carried away. The only things that count are the fights that actually happened. Cross era stuff is often just bollocks.
I'm pretty solid in my opinion that a peak Mike beats and stops any version of AJ. Re Usyk. I think that Mike and his particular style would be a big challenge for Usyk. I'm looking at how well Chisora managed to do against Usyk and thinking that Mike does things a hell of a lot better... One thing I'm sure is, if a peak Mike can't stop Usyk, Usyk wins on points by default imo. I just can't envisage Mike out pointing Usyk ever, tbh. Mike Vs AJ would have been a great but predictable scrap. Mike Vs Usyk would been an extremely intense, super switched on rnd by rnd cliff hanger of a performance.
Whilst I think Tyson is the worst historical style matchup for Usyk (based on Usyk v Breidis & Chisora maybe), I also think it's interesting in terms of much of Mike's aura in his pomp came from fear and bullying his opponents so they were almost defeated at the 1st bell. That would not happen to Usyk, and as others have mentioned Mike never faced an elite southpaw with the skills, engine and IQ that Usyk has. Very intriguing match up, and would favour Usyk the longer the match went on - navigating through the early rounds against the fats and murderous punching Iron Mike would be the real ask IMO
Just to clarify I think it would take more than a round also, but Mike's style and physical attributes are too much for usyk He would kill Aj in a round though. He'd be like a rabbit in the headlights when Mike attacks
most probably yes . prime mike was similar to kabayel in attacking the body , but with more perfection , better combinations and virtually twice the punching force . This content is protected
Exactly It's not a dig at usyk Styles make fights. Others that beat Tyson may not beat usyk. I just believe tyson is all wrong for usyk, who doesn't like it to the body despite what his worshippers say
Mike would be a stylistic nightmare for Usyk, but I don't think he would knock him out. It would be Tyson vs Tucker type of a fight. He KILLS AJ tho.
Tyson would stop Usyk from accumulation of shots. Usyk's southpaw stance is great but it works against him here. It opens him up more to Tyson's straight right. Usyk would also be reluctant to throw a lot of jabs here because Tyson's left hook could easily sneak under or over his jab. Usyk doesn't quite have the 83 inch reach of Douglas and while he throws some sneaky uppercuts, he isn't the type to throw uppercuts vs pressure fighters with that kind of potency and frequency. On top of all of this, Tyson is faster footed and faster handed. Usyk's chin is probably too good for him to get stopped by one punch but from accumulation of body and head shots? Absolutely.
Fantastic and unbiased Tyson being able to punch equally with either hand is something many don't realise who haven't watched him live Usyk likes to throw plenty of volume to overwhelm opponents, especially his bigger opposition, but he is getting countered fast and hard if he tries the high pressure style with Mike. He won't bully Mike up close or fight dirty like Holyfield Usyk may go down as the greater fighter and he may beat other opponents that could beat Mike, but head to head? I definitely favour tyson in his short but magnificent prime
Thanks. Usyk is the greater fighter overall but yes, bad bad style match up. One of the commentator mentioned in the Usyk-Bellew fight how reluctant Usyk was with his jab early on due to Bellew's left hook potentially going over the top of Usyk's jab. Its a bit of a myth that southpaws are hard to nail with left hooks. Toney and Mayweather both beat several southpaws using the left hook as one of their mail weapons. Usyk is already more open to the straight right hand than a fellow orthodox fighter because the southpaw stance simply makes you more open to the right hand. Now Usyk has exceptional skill, head movement, footwork etc. and he can avoid most fighters right hands by hitting them with hard lefts and making them hesistant to throw the right. Well Tyson hits harder than Fury and has much quicker hands. And unlike Dubois or Joshua, he has a great chin. So Usyk's feints and left hand aren't going to stop Tyson from throwing the right hand. Usyk only has one option, circle to his right and move directly into the path of Tyson's left hook. As you said, Tyson had equal power in both hands- extremely rare. Usyk will be reluctant to jab and even if he does not hesitate with the jab, the left hook with sneak under or over it at some point. Not to mention the uppercuts.
