Would Ali have done a better or worse job against Fury than Usyk?

I'll shoot, here.

It's a bit apples to oranges. Usyk didn't fight him until he was 37, and thus, wasn't even prime at his ideal weight.

Prime, 67' Ali would have done significantly better.

 

It would go like the Bonavena fight. Ali wins.

better footwork, quicker hands, heavier hands than usyk

however, he doesn’t go the body which is a big weakness of fury.

 

Lol. Ali was beaten up by Frazier.
He was known to have low power even in vintage times. And his defence was clearly terrible.
He gets absolutely destroyed.

Fury was wary of Usyk's counters and respectable power. He'd just walk through Ali like he was nothing and beat him up like he end of the Cunningham fight.

 

Ali would hit Fury so fast and so often he'd think he was surrounded.

I find this interesting. One could argue that Usyk 'monstered' Fury and AJ...twice each. And I'm sorry, others disagree and that's cool, but Ali is a much better fighter than Usyk...but more than that, his style when younger, and when that bit older, would allow him to beat both (all three) of these modern men, two with ease, one with a degree more difficulty.

 

Ali is infinitely more gritty, determined, creative, and assuming he gets the same modern advantage Usyk does (training methods, tapes etc) it's an entirely different battleground really.

Ali has limited to experience against southpaws, sure, but his chin, conditioning, handspeed, accuracy, and titan-like character lays foundation for an entirely different development over the course of twelve to fifteen rounds.

Usyk being past it doesn't help either. London Usyk is in my opinion the finest Usyk we got to see.

 

I know I am in the minority with this but I think Fury would be one of Ali's toughest matchups. He has the tools to offset some of Ali's best strengths and he models certain parts of his style a bit like Ali.

In particular the 2015 version of Fury who was very slick.

 

Ali was literally knocking down opponents going backwards. His power pre-exile, which came from his speed and accuracy, was very respectable.

 

Actual 67 Ali -- not some hypothetical version who trains like a modern fighter -- may beat the old Fury that Usyk fought, but I wouldn't bet on him against Fury at his best. Or peak Usyk.

 

I think similiar TBH. Ali for me would win on points too.

But the same time - might sound strange, I think Usyk's style is worse for Fury than Ali's.

 

Fury is big - and skilled. But let's not fall into the modern trap that he 'hypothetically ' beats people he hasn't shown that he could.
Ali is the proven quantity here. Ali on points.
