After his ball kicking antics yesterday, which should give his nickname new meaning, or maybe switch it to The Ball Wrecker. I wouldn't put anything past that fugly T-Rex armed fidget.

Who in their right mind would fight Ball in England? Look at how they handled that fight. Kicking (!) after the round without repercussions... They disqualified donovan who was winning every round against crocker for a admittedly late punch after rigging everything against donovan (crocker moving forward with the head all the time and donovan getting penalized for it)

At least they at least took points off ball later when he started winning rounds on his own as doheny got tired. Based on skill nick ball would have stood no chance to win this fight.

I would never go to england to fight one of their stupid cash cows while going up in weight. Probably having as big a name as inoue is would help him get a bit of a fairer shake than others on the scorecards so maybe he wouldn't have to fear a blatant robbery on the scorecards but apart from that I would expect anything.

Not that other countries are much better but I hate that as a part of the sport of boxing so much. Give me saudi fights over that crap any day! I remember listening to 5 live boxing with steve bunce telling tales of boxers having their water spiced and getting sent to bad hotels outside town or whatever as if it was an integral fun part of boxing...

I have no horse in this race, since I am neither from britain nor japan and don't care much about where fighters come from, but come on can we just have fighters compete on equal terms please.

Nick Ball looked absolute **** in that fight. No balance, not one effective punch going backwards (push him on the backfoot and you can attack as much as you want to), no punch selection, totally ineffective when slugging - didn't even hurt doheny when actually hitting him. He was just exhausted that's the whole reason he lost.

Please give me better opponents for inoue, one of the greatest technical fighters and one of the most exciting fighters on the planet right now.

@Serge I am quite surprised that you see it that differently as I had about a 100% overlap in opinion with basically all your posts so far

A scouse brother was robbed in his own hometown on the undercard vs a Romanian brother. We had two neutral judges for that fight and it wasn't even a world title fight. It was for the WBO European belt whatever the hell that is

To be fair, Donovan vs Crocker was in Northern Ireland which is technically part of the UK.

I enjoyed the kick. TJ had been behaving like a clown at the weigh in, pushing his luck goading Ball and his team, and he held Ball in a headlock for a long time and would not let go whist A Hard Day's Night by The Beatles was being blasted from the PA. Liverpool is the birthplace of The Beatles which it is famous for worldwide and TJ was obviously trying to humiliate Ball in his hometown, in front of a packed arena of his home fans, in the city which is the home of what many consider to be the greatest band of all time. TJ is lucky the fans in attendance didn't tear him limb from limb and had I been in Ball's position I certainly wouldn't have handled it with the composure and maturity he did.

Fair enough but when Serge is in character Serge is gonna do and say exactly what he needs to say and do. FTR, Inoue is my current third favourite fighter and Ball is neither 1 or 2. But I'm always going to tell it like it is and I'm afraid Inoue has no chin and he's not getting past MJ.

Do you have any idea how insanely infuriating it is when someone holds you in a headlock for that amount of time and won't let go? It would elicit a violent reaction even from even the most mild-mannered pacifist, let alone a fighting man in fight mode in front of a packed arena of his home fans. There's a reason why Brits are the most fearsome warriors in the world and why domestic dust ups between two Brits are 9 times out of 10 FOTY contenders

Well maybe you're from liverpool and somehow that contributes to you weighing things differently here (I love the beatles btw , but even if Ball was one of my favorite fighters and I would see it the way you do I would expect the referee to deduct a point for that action.

Kicking your opponent after the bell is ridiculous. Push him off like hundreds of fighters did before you in that situation. It's like asking the referee to overlook tyson biting holyfields ear because holyfield did a lot of headbutts before. There are rules and if they are not enforced then this is not a sport and we're watching a street fight. If rules only count for one fighter and external factors like hometown, weigh-in antics (mostly for selling tickets anyway) or birthplace and earning potential are factored in we are watching a business model. And I don't like WWE...

But it's true that frustrations can get the better of you sometimes and I am actually continually impressed by the professionalism of fighters (mostly the technical ones) when they fight dirty fighters and continue to fight clean probably because they wouldn't benefit from getting into a mud fight and didn't study fighting dirty. It's just that since the Vargas fight I see Ball as one of the dirty ones and protected by the ref, too.

I've never even been to Liverpool. The ref could've deducted a point and had he done so I would've had no issue with him doing so whatsoever. But as said, TJ had him in a headlock and was being a complete dick intentionally holding him in it for as long as possible. It wasn't merely a quick grab and let go he was really taking the Michael and Ball saw red and retaliated. It was a heat of the moment type of thing and he gave TJ a little knee in the thigh.

Look at someone like Andre Ward he used to use his head and elbows to intentionally inflict cuts and gaping wounds on his opponents. They weren't a retaliatory heat of a moment type thing after severe provocation they were an integral part of his game plan and he's worshipped like a god by many. A retaliatory heat of the moment knee to the thigh is child's play compared to that. If it was unprovoked I wouldn't have had a problem with the ref DQ'ing him but it wasn't.

They say if someone punches you low, punch them low right back

Well, if someone locks you up in a headlock and won't let go, give them a boot up the ass or a knee to the thigh

But I agree that the same rules that apply to the B-side or away fighter should apply to the A-side or home fighter

What Ball did was moronic but am I the only that thought TJ was being super dramatic.

This thread title highlights what's one of the most appalling and lazy ass developments over the last 30-40 years in certain parts of the UK, you give your kid a name, then when they're children, you shorten it to a more appropriate childlike nickname, which they occasionally keep when they grow up, or move on from. Thankfully Cain's parents understood that, which gave him the option to go with the far more dignified sounding ANDREW, instead of Andy. But poor Nick Ball and Charlie Edwards, they never had that ****ing option. They'll never have the option of being the far classier sounding Nicholas Ball and Charles Edwards. TJ also had that option, he could've gone with Terence, but instead he chose TJ, Terry also could've been an option. Good for him, not an issue, but at least allow your kid to have a goddamn choice!

Okay I get what you mean. For the record I am appalled by Andre Ward. I watched both Kovalev fights when I haven't been in the sport for too long. I take Ball ten times over Ward. Warrington was also hard to watch a lot of times...

Yes, headbutts are far more egregious, damaging, and harmful to a fighter's career and like kicks and knees are also obviously illegal. Cuts can end a fighter's career, ensure they take more damage and blind them to shots and KO shots when they reopen. The worst you're going to suffer from a retaliatory little boot up the ass or knee to the thigh (whilst naughty) is a dead leg or a sore ass

Re. Ward. Not only did he constantly billy goat butt, elbow, and play Whac-A-Mole on his opponent's testicles as part of his game plan but he was repeatedly using his noggin as a battering ram and he still did so to Kessler after already having carved him up with it and inflicting gaping wounds to his eyes and cheek. Imagine Ball had decided to kick TJ or had attempted to do so numerous times every round?

Yes, Warrington is a certified William goat too
