Cafu was very lucky to get the decision against Tanaka and was on the verge of being stopped in the last round. If this fight happens I don't see Cafu lasting 12 with Bam.
Oh damn I will prefer Phumelela Cafu vs Roman Gonzalez and normally Kosei Tanaka take the winner. Chocolatito vs Phumelela was in negociations since December 2024.
And I prefer Fernando Daniel Martinez vs Bam... it was also in negociations during the same time (December 2024)...
Yes it's a robbery the South African make a good fight but it was a split decision for Kosei Tanaka or a draw at least. But it's a shame that we don't have the rematch. Maybe Kosei Tanaka is actually retired he want retire when he loose against Ioka so it's very possible that he is retired actually.
Bam last fought in November. After the December Martinez-Ioka 2 got canned Hearn tried to get Martinez instead but failed and Ioka 2 was finalized for May. So now he tries to get Cafu for summer (July or August) but unfortunately if he couldn't get Martinez I'm not sure he'll pay enough to make Cafu accept either. I mean, as of right now even with Chocolatito canned Cafu's choices are: 1) Easy, winnable homecoming defense in South Africa for cheap money but great memory likely followed by a more realistically winnable rematch with Tanaka on Amazon Prime for good money, then a potential for another match as a Teiken promoted foreign champion in the lightweights and maybe even a second chance even if he loses to Tanaka. 2) One time fight with good/great money but away in America for a near guaranteed loss on his first defense and likely no chance ever again for a world title or big money fight. Seeing Olascuaga enjoy his limelight and money fights in Japan ever since the Teraji loss, Cafu should be thinking quite hard right now.
What sucks the most is that its obvious now that Bam isn't even doing a stay busy fight until summer at the earliest at this rate and possibly nothing until fall if Cafu doesn't occur either.
I don't mind this. Even though I had Tanaka edging their last fight Cafu still put on a very good performance and made it close. Bam should win this no doubt but wouldn't be surprise to see it being competitive. In the mean time let's also see Chocolatito vs Tanaka. Make that fight happen.
Evan though Cafu was in trouble in the last round, I thought the decision was perfectly legitimate based on the KD he scored and the lead he built through ten. He boxed and countered really well and he did fight back when things appeared to be getting out of hand. I think Bam wins, but I don't have any problems with this match if it comes off.
Nah. Cafu had a good case for winning six, and the KD he scored was enough to give him the edge on my card.
Hope it gets made. It’s a unification fight and adds to bams legacy. Much better for him than a stay busy fight. I would like for him to clean up everything on his way to Inoue. Or find his ceiling trying.
Pretty meh fight imo. Cafu was very lucky to have gotten the nod over Tanaka and really isn't up to much. Martinez would be a far more meaningful fight for Bam. Still, Cafu is a decent counterpuncher in his prime and has good power for the weight so it's not all that far-fetched to see him spring another upset I suppose.
Never bro ! It was a close fight maybe a draw but remember that Cafu is the challenger so normally Kosei Tanaka was still the champion.. And in any case I prefer Cafu vs Chocolatito
Cafu’s response to Bam already announcing a fight with Martinez. Does he have what it takes to disrupt any future plans? This content is protected
