Joshua, probably the worst heavyweight champion ever without any talent, his overrated status has been confirmed more than once...

That's unfairly harsh. Without any talent?

If he hadn't shared an era with Charles Martin and Bermane Stiverne ... Nah, it'd still be a ridiculous statement.

Even if we're talking longer term champions... He shared an era with Wilder, who's best win wouldn't even get in Joshua's top 5.

Hmm, how can I help you, here...

I guess... Has there been a weaker clear #1 fighter in any previous heavyweight era?

In a good era he wouldn't have been top dog by a long shot, but he'd at least have still been a contender - the likes of Martin, Stiverne and Wilder wouldn't.

HBO and Larry Merchant in particular gushed over Mesi, and Dominick Guinn. They just knew they had not one but 2 surefire, can't miss future HW contenders....................and they even had them both on a collision course. Hell even Ring Magazine had them sharing a cover. Then they were both horribly humbled by the same person, and Mesi in particular knocked into basically retirement. Guinn for what it's worth did end up becoming a truly great journeyman gatekeeper however

Herald " The Hype Job" Jensen was probably the worst but, uh-...That one probably wasn't a surprise, though, at least, I guess, you know.

I think Azim is pretty bang average quite honestly and would get beaten by the top crop of super-lightweights kicking about right now. Dalton Smith seems to have progressed far further and has the higher ceiling imo.

This place was in melt down over Joyce's 'all time great chin' after he beat Parker. He was being compared to George Chuvalo FFS.

Joyce was stopped in the amateurs by a guy with a 1-9 career record. His only career win was when he stopped Joyce.

Tank, the "So-called" face of boxing. Just a better managed, and little more skilled Broner....

Moses Itaumas getting more praise more quickly than anyone I've ever seen. Theres a decentish chance it will be warranted but people are jumping the gun.

I was sitting in the carriage behind ya man. I also had tickets for the Joyce express. I was right to stay on the Dubois train, even after it went down a few one way tracks, and I didn't even look up the price of tickets for the Bakole/Zhang fast train...they looked fun to be on but destined to derail....

You're annoying great poster. I'd argue Broner was better. His own shenanigans caused his demise. Plus atleast AB fought stiffer competition.

Coming from a guy who has always backed him and prolly always will, I gotta say Zhang was getting a bit overhyped in the wake of the Joyce wins.

I remember around that time there was a thread that made a fantasy match up of him and Ali, and there was an ungodly amount of people picking Zhang. Listen, he's one of my favorite active boxers and despite his recent loss I still think he has a decent chance against most of the current top ten, but... Ali, really? The only way he beats Ali is if he stands in for Holmes in their fight, and that's not exactly an achievement to write home about.
