Eddie overestimated George’s selling power I have no idea why the chose a 20K seat arena for what isn’t even a big fight they should’ve just had it at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney.

They were selling cheap seats near the ring a few weeks ago. Like $150

Imam Khataev is a late starter to boxing or he was in the amateur till late?

 

The arena filled up towards the main event but there were sections curtained off.

 

He had nearly 300 amateur fights babs.

 

There's some decent Light Heavyweight talent in the country. 2020 Olympic Bronze medalist Imam Khataev might be the pick of the litter. I still haven't recovered from some of his punches on Saturday night & I was only watching. I don't think anyone domestically will be putting their hand up to fight him. Conor Wallace is back as the co-main on the Jai Opetaia show on 13 May. In addition, there's 2020 Olympian Paulo Aokuso & the impressive Kirra Ruston. Ruston was the national amateur champ at Light Heavy & currently holds the Australian professional title. He was on the national amateur team until they did away with the Middleweight division which forced Callum Peters up to Light Heavy. He beat a Russian at the last IBA World Championships so has some serious credentials behind him. There's been some talk he will be fighting Callum Peters in the pros sooner rather than later. I hope not. Let both guys climb the ladder in their respective divisions.

 

Apparently Fast Eddie is looking to take Teremoana to the US & UK for some fights & sparring. That's nice. I thought I would help out with some suggestions for domestic opponents when next he fights here. The Fijian H/W champ lasted twice as long on Saturday night as most of us thought he would & landed three decent right hands that had more on them than what Teremoana took from Jalolov at the Olympics.

Trial horses - modest records but capable of providing a test
Stevan Ivic 6-0-1 (2) - Australian H/W Champ
Troy Pilcher 10-1-1 (8) - Fought to win against Justis Huni & is likely to find Teremoana easier to hit.

Seasoned pros - be wary of facing them over anything more than 6 rounds
Django Opelu 16-6-2 (12) - Very experienced & always gives a good account of himself.
Kiki Toa Leutele 12-2-2 (8) - Tough hombre with good chin. I think he goes the distance.
Kris Terzievski 13-1-2 (10) - Not many southpaws on this list. Kris T is a decent one.

Fellow prospects - need to climb over these guys on the way to the top
Jackson Murray 7-0 (5) - Word on the street is he doesn't want the Teremoana smoke.
Brandon Granch 3-0 (2) - Heavy hitter out of Newcastle who fights on the King Timmy undercard.
Toese Vousiutu 8-1 (7) - Physically strong, tough & a heavy puncher. I think he gives Teremoana a serious test.

Best of the rest - not suitable as opponents (for now)
Joseph Goodall 11-2-1 (10) - Better value as a sparring partner than an opponent.
Demsey McKean 22-2 (14) - Ditto.
Hemi Ahio 24-1 (18) - Could get through the early rounds & then tee off. Pass for now.
Justis Huni 12-0 (7) - I'll enjoy this fight when they both hold world titles. Not before.
Alex Leapai Jr 4-0-1 (3) - Another Queenslander who could make himself useful as a sparring partner.

Who would’ve picked Souths to beat Penrith tonight? Worst I have seen Panthers play in a minute.

 

Penrith hadn't experienced a 3 game skid since 2019. 2025 days ago...
