Mike Mccallum is prolly the best from that country. IMO, he is one of the most underrated greats in boxing. The man would have beat terry norris and thomas hearns IMO.

 

Bruno is Jamaican? I always thought he was of Nigerian decent.

 

Maybe Simon Brown or McCallum, McCallum was more consistent tho.

 

Its remarkable how such a small island like Jamaica....and indeed the other carribean islands produced so many world class boxers...especially in the 1980s you had so many guys at once....honeyghan,Mccallum,brown,andries,jackson, ruddock, Eubank snr,Bramble,Hope,Berbick etc etc

 

It can get convoluted, but actually Andries was from Guyana, Hope from Antigua, Jackson from the Virgin Islands and Bramble from St. Kitts. Perhaps we can substitute the 3 Bunnies. Bunny Grant, Bunny Sterling and Bunny Johnson. Also, wasn't Joe Bygraves born in Jamaica? It's actually not that easy getting to 10 here.

Livingston Bramble wasn't from Jamaica either.
He was from ST.Kitts.
Mike McCallum was the best boxer from the

I think a lot of folks think Bramble is Jamaican because he is a Rastafarian but you are correct. He was not born there. I also agree that McCallum is hands down the best fighter from Jamaica and it's not even close.

I just got back from there over the weekend. It is a beautiful country and definitely worth a trip.

 

Nice list! I always forget about O'Neil Bell. He was a fun fighter too watch. Lure warrior that is sadly no longer with us. Jamaica produced a lot of hard nosed, tough dudes. Glen Johnson was always a tough fight.

 

Only 3 of the 10 you listed are Jamaican (UK, Jamaica, Jamaica, UK , Virgin Islands, Canada, UK, St Kitts, Antigua, Jamaica). There hasn't been a Jamaican world champion for 10 years. Looks like they produced a few good ones in the 80's, but in my lifetime they've been poor. They are not up there with the best small population nations at boxing like Puerto Rico, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland.

You make a wonderful point. Ive always been obsessed with the Carribeans conveyor belt due to the size of the islands but as you say Puerto Rico certainly punches above its weight.Id nrver realised the population of Ireland was so small.
