I think people hate on this era a bit too much and have some rose tinted glasses about past eras. Go actually look at who was the top 10 in 2005, 2010, ect. In 2005 you had james toney ranked third in the division, john ruiz 5th, monte barret 6th, and calvin brock 7th. In 2010 you had Adamek at 4th, Boytsov at 7th, Dimitrenko at 9th and Arreola at 10th. Ect ect ect Really dont think our current era is much weaker than these times.... Usyk, Fury, DD, Agit, AJ, Parker Are a solid top 6, imo. Zhang and Bakole make for dangerous wildcards at 7 and 8. Then round out the other two with whoever and its really not as bad as people claim, imo
2010 the Ring rankings were terrible not the division because they felt the need to reaffirm the WBCs insane title matchups. Thats the thing with the Ring rankings if an alphabet body makes questionable choices they are going to help enable that by ranking their contenders high. 2005 I agree. Division had some nice lower depth though.
I went 2000s but the era cutoffs aren't ideal. Should be 04 - 2014 which is the Klitschko era Then 14 - 2024 which was the AJ/Fury/Wilder era Now 24- which is the Usyk era
2020s and it isnt particularly close. There is a reason Vlad and Wilder had loooong title reigns. They didn't have any worthy challengers.
I'm more complaining about the lower rankings. The 1,2,3 stuff is the easy part of making rankings where Ring messes up a lot is the lower picks where they have to pick a few guys out of many options. But they had guys like Adamek and Stiverne at number 4 at one point I think?
Tyson Fury saved the HW division in 2015 from a big stiff idiot and Usyk saved Tyson Fury from himself.
