I'm curious as to where you found it. The picks remind me of a small Boxing youtube channel called The Boxing Librarian that was closed recently. He usually ranked Rosenbloom, Canzoneri, Britton, Kid Lewis, Dillon, Dundee and Miller much higher than most. The high rankings of Jack Johnson, Harry Wills and Joe Jeannette on this list also remind me of him.

Hipster list tbh seems like it just placed people based on how long ago they fought

Ted Kid Lewis and Rosenbloom probably shouldn't be there. His era is full of fighters with incredible P4P feats and Lewis went to 175 and got one shot by Carpentier. Lewis was a FW but he was an inch taller than Sam Langford.

I'm not that knowlegable on the lower weight classes of the early years maybe the British scene at WW was just that good. But Rosenbloom? Hes a LHW with an amazing SOS and great HW feats. But lots of guys in his era have those and have nowhere near as many losses as Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom isn't that small. He actually outweighed Braddock by 10 pounds when he beat him.

Ketchel not being on here is kind of an outrage. He was a MW who challenged for the HW title and gave the best version of this lists number 1 a good fight at 23. His death a few months later also caused absolute anarchy at MW for many years. Imagine him fighting Harry Greb?

I don't know how Stribling made Featherweight at 6 ft 1 but hes the only Featherweight to win a HW belt even though the WBA has sort of retconned it. He also won a LHW title fight without getting the title because there weren't official judges. Same as Mickey Walker. His last fight was win over Rosenbloom whose number 5.

Charles should've been higher, maybe swap his place with Moore.

I'm a Duran fan but his position was a bit acceptable for me tbh,he really cleaned out the lightweight division but I'm not sure about his opponent's class and skills, they still look good on film tho at least.

Slapsie actually has the most wins against top 10 rated opponents (82) so that's gotta have some meaning to it, i guess

He also beat 8 hofs, 11 champs, has 7 defences, 19 wins against champs, 13 against hofs etc

All this data is taken from the guy who originally posted the list (Reissbxng on tiktok iirc) and a guy who seems to be his friend (Hitmanboxing ) on tiktok so idk if it's reliable or not

The first champ RD beat was Marcel, who was venerated in some post here as one of the best featherweights H2H, he beat prime Arguello (u could say prime) fairly easily and was robbed in his first title shot imho

Tbh the only guy who u can really doubt about his actual skill was Saoul Mamby, and he still became a champ and defended his wbc super lw belt 5 times, all the others r pretty skilled champs

Got it from a guy on tiktok named Reissbxng, he claims to be one of the most knowledgable guys about boxing in the app n things like that, using fallacies like he's in a theological argument to disprove people's claims when they tell him old timers would die today n bs like that

Also i remember BL, good channel for stats and comparison ig, a shame he deleted it/was deleted because that was my primary source for data to rank boxers

I just checked him out. Definitely seems like a BL copycat. Especially that one video where he ranked the top 10 fighters with the most wins over ranked opposition. It's literally a direct copy of BL's video on the topic, same exact stats and everything (some of which are a bit off).

Yeah don't listen to this guy, he clearly thinks he is smarter than everybody because he stumbled upon guys like BL and parrots their opinions blindly. If he was actually knowledgeable enough to rank guys like Miller and Dillon in the top 15 of his own volition, then there's no excuse for not having guys like Miguel Canto and Nonito Donaire in his lists for top 10 jabbers and top 10 left hookers respectively. Clearly he doesn't actually do much of his own research and watches way less Boxing than he lets on, and basically does not think for himself.

As the top 50 is basically a BL list, it's very stat heavy. It can be good potentially, with great but less popular fighters that aren't usually given their flowers being ranked close to where they deserve. In some other cases, we get Maxie Rosenbloom in the top 5 and Joe Jeannette as a top 5 HW. I made a thread about Rosenbloom's record vs top 10 ranked contenders in detail and despite having fought the biggest amount of ranked fighters ever, he lost a whole lot and never proved his superiority over a decent amount of his best opponents, so a top 5 ranking is basically inexcusable imo https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...cord-against-top-10-ranked-opposition.733271/

Just keep doing your own thing man, you can use guys like Reissbxng and BL to learn about fighters you haven't learned about, but I suggest you do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

The only way to compile a reasonable list is to combine the lists of several knowledgable fans. I have followed boxing for 20 years and i have seen a lot of great fights. But there are also many great fights i haven't seen. I have gaps in my knowledge of certain division and certain eras.

Boxing is maybe the hardest sport to create lists in even if it is just a list for one division. Factoring in accomplishments, quality of competition, longevity, overall ability based on available film etc. is just too hard and there isn't an objective criteria.

Its too hard for a sport with so many divisions and so much history to come up with an all time top 50 p4p list. Its slightly easier to rank fighters by division or to do P4P by each decade.

The ones that he beat in his title defenses I mean.
De Jesus and Guts Ishimatsu were pretty good, tuff and skilled champs,I give it to them since Guts atleast beat a past prime but still fine Buchanan, and De Jesus still beats Duran the first time.

My only issues is for the rest of the contenders...

1st title defense:I had no much problems with what Robertson achieved,on his fight with Duran he seems to be a tough counterpuncher,he had wins over contenders like Ruben Navarro,Masataka Takayama and he even drew with (probably past prime" Sugar Ramos, but then his record kinda drops with losses to Rodolfo Gonzalez and Chango Carmona,he came back with a win over journeyman Alex Mollado, but then lost to Ben Villaflor in a 10-rounder before fighting Duran,I know he fought tough fighters before, but I dunno how he deserves the title shot with that record...

2nd title defense:I'll skip Thompson,he did beat Manny Santos and Joe Tetteh (European champion form what I remember) whom he broke both of their win streaks before fighting Duran.

5th defense: Masataka Takayama..he beat contender Buzzsaw Yamabe and Arab Suga who's on a winning streak, good enough...

6th defense:Ray Lampkin,he was impressive on film and was NABF champ for some time, but De Jesus already beat him two times and easier, plus his opponents going into the Duran fight...were they a contender?

7th defense:Leoncio Ortiz,3 of his last 5 fights before fighting Duran were with opponents that had a winning streak,he would later go on after the Duran defeat to tie a 1-1 record with Rene Arredondo.

8th defense: Lou Bizarro, same issue as Ortiz but his records were still ridiculously padded.

9th defense:Alvaro Rojas, again he's like Ortiz except he did beat a decent featherweight champ in Clemente Sanchez before.

10th defense:I'd give Fernandez a pass,he went competitive with Arguello twice a d arguably beat Howard Davis Jr,a very good fighter.

11th defense:the final I'd be covering, Viruet looks good on film despite the lacking resume,he could infight good and overall had very good technique plus a knowledge to impose his big size.

Even after all that though,I still thought Duran's title defenses could've been vs more HOF'ers if he truly wanted to be numero uno all time lightweight, still very good run I'd rate 8/10.
