I know he is only 32 and that isn’t old for heavyweights, and he has looked great in his last few fights, but hear me out.

I rewatched his 2017 fight against Chisora a couple of weeks ago and it seems to me as though he was much faster and more mobile/athletic back then than he is currently.

Don’t get me wrong, he is still an awesome fighter in my book and I can’t wait to see what he goes on to do, but I can’t help but wonder if maybe physically he peaked early and perhaps wasted a good few years of his prime before stepping up again after the Chisora win.

Anybody else see this, or am I losing my mind (I have 2 toddlers so this is also a real possibility haha)?

Different fighters age differently so who knows.

Maybe he is slightly slower. But keep in mind he was trying to move away from Chisora so perhaps he was trying to use his speed a bit more. In recent fights, he has sat down on his punches more which automatically mean the feet won't bounce up and down quite as much. This can give the illusion of slower feet.

But yes, given that he is 32, we will see a notable decline in speed by the time he is 34-35.

It depends on the person, not everyone is the same, Foreman lasted a long time and then there are the Klitschko brothers, a lot depends on the number of tough fights and the damage done, Kabayel looks fresh and in great shape for now...

    Biology plus tough fights/beatings, yes.

Kabayel's been in very few tough fights, but biology is anyone's guess.

There's also, obviously, the question of styles - some styles a bit of a decline will take so much away that it takes less physical degradation for a fighter to be ineffective/"shot", where some can continue to be somewhat effective even when old and slow.

Agit has just entered his sexual thus physical prime as he proved to me last night, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I think hes just changed his style to more and grown stronger.

He thought very timid against Chisora and whilst he won fairly clearly, it looked more like he just beat an old man with the way he fought.

Lately he's been going and laying the hurt on his opponents.

I don't know to be honest. Hard to say at this point in time.

Heavier, doughier, slower yet smarter and apparently harder-hitting. The very apt Foreman analogy (to name just one example) has already been cited here.

I'm not worried about Kabayel's ability.

I am worried about the prospect of beltholders ducking him....

Agree with this. He has tweaked his style and added elements to his game - even if Kabayel seems slower he has defo looked like a more dangerous fighter.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’m a fan of Agit’s and hope to see him one day soon wearing one of the belts. Love to see heavyweights with a good body attack.

He does look a bit slower, but more polished and dangerous with what he does best. That body attack is so unique. It's like shots to the face are an afterthought sometimes and these big heavyweights aren't ready to defend repeated blows to their ribcage and stomach.

I haven't seen the Chisora fight in a while, but I remember thinking he tried going forward a couple of times early on then shied away from it like he felt that he couldn't be Chisora that way so looked for plan B.
Like I said been a while so I may be wrong.
Honestly it wouldn't surprise me to see him box the outside if he finds another opponent he can't just smash to the body, looking at his earlier career he definitely has those skills in the toolkit, but he just isn't using them these days as what's he's doing is working imo

We don't know what he has been doing in his personal life since back then. He could be getting drunk every night for all we know which would cause a physical decline even at 32.

Personally I don't think he has declined that much, more that he has consolidated his style to better suit how he wants to fight these days.

Plus I know he is heavy weight so it's not as relevant, but he is carrying a bit of extra weight and could easily compete at cruiser if he cut down a bit.
