Who wins in their prime Andre “SOG” Ward vs Super Joe Calzaghe

Great fight.

Ward had a superb intellect, tremendous mental fortitude/self-belief, and terrific all-around craft. He also understood and practiced the "dark arts" in the ring as well as any fighter over the last 30-40 years.

Calz, on the other hand, was a speedy volume puncher with good feet and plenty of confidence. He was tough, always came to win, and had a great engine.

I think it comes down to Ward's in-fight adjustments vs Calz's work rate down the stretch.

I suspect two, maybe even three fights are needed to settle the issue.

Michael Spinks and Marvin Johnson are seen as two of the greatest Light Heavyweights of all time. Yet Vyacheslav Lemeshev beat them BOTH.

Look at him here beating Marvin Johnson like it's a walk in the park, with ease. The talent difference was massive. Lemeshev was on a whole another level.

I mean could you imagine if the Soviet Union fighters like the superb Lemeshev could have been able to turn pro all those years they couldn't.

It would be close. SOG's strange brew of dirty tactics, self-belief, hypocrisy, ugly but effective skills, awkwardness, and even sanctimoniousness would cause Jones significant discomfort.

First off, I know nobody that considers Marvin Johnson one of the greatest lightheavies of all time. A borderline great maybe. But one of the best 175 pounders ever? Nah. If you do, fine. Second considering the stage at which fighters are at between their amateur and professional careers, it is fruitless to bring up the amateur careers when discussing the pro careers. Two different animals. For example Randy Shields beat Sugar Ray Leonard as an amateur. Augie Sanchez beat Floyd Mayweather in the ams. You mention Michael Spinks. He lost to Tommy Brooks in the final of the AAUs a year before he won the gold at the Olympics. Due to the stage in their careers, you cannot compare à fighter from the ams to the pros.
