I've read tidbits that Tunney had a drinking problem and he sure went to pot physically in his fifties compared to Dempsey looking bloated but are there any back up stories on his dinking ? Truly curious ?

It's such an absurd post ... is he assuming the gorilla is fighting under M of Q rules ? If not any human would be killed in an instant hand to hand.

A gorilla vs a human is the equivalent of an adult male vs. an 8 year old. It ends as soon as the former in each scenario decides to end it.

Reminds me of when my brother said Bruce Lee would beat a silver back. But he was around 12 at the time. Still gives me a chuckle, though.

I read that the first time. Pretty prejudiced harsh thing to repeat.

Survivors bias. Someone who wins nearly ever fight whose not really knowlegable on animals is going to think they can outbox anything. Back then we had no internet what should have been "common knowledge" wasn't so common. I don't say "common sense" because "common sense" is usually wrong.

I like Tunney, but he was way off with this one. A heavyweight boxer, even a Dempsey or Tyson, would have no real chance against a 460lb silverback. It’s not about skill, gorillas are insanely strong, way faster than people think and built completely different. You’re not knocking one out with a punch. The moment it closes the distance, it’s over. It would just grab and maul you. No boxer is beating pure nature like that, no matter how tough they are.

Bruce Lee would have excellent chances of being a toothpick for a silverback.

You’re not annoying me in the slightest , actually find your childish belligerence
amusing. Looking forward to your to repeating it again as there’s little else you have.

At the time only a small percentage of people knew this. People had to buy almanacs to learn general facts about the world. We take for granted how obvious things like this are.

Ali will float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, until that Silverback decides to rip one of his arms off and beats Ali to death with it. Tunney is forgetting something else, the Silverback has teeth that will rip off skin and take chucks out of you.
