Moses Itauma vs Justis Huni

Cracking prospect fight... The sort of fight where it could be a future title matchup, or both fighters might fall short of ever getting there.

Itauma's chin isn't too proven yet, but Huni isn't particularly powerful either - my guess would be Itauma by stoppage, but you never quite know with relatively unproven fighters like this, anything can happen!

 

This is a fight that would test both of them, for now I would choose Itauma because Huni lacks Power and Itauma has plenty of it, he is better defensively and faster...

 

Would love to see this happen. You rarely get these fights with two up an coming undefeated fighters risking it all at such an early point in their careers.

Anything could happen as both are so unproven. I'm leaning towards Itauma, I think he's more well rounded as a boxer.

 

Agreed - could easily be a Joshua-Whyte type fight where both go on to be pretty relevant at the top end of the division, yet never fight each other again...

Equally, it's entirely possible (dare I even say "probable" given that most prospects don't make it??) that one or both doesn't make it to the top and they don't fight each other again.

Either way, it'd be fun and an interesting insight into these boys.

 

In a British ring with British judges & a British ref, Itauma would be the clear favourite. The concern I have with Huni is that he will be kept inactive or fed sub-standard opponents while waiting for this fight. That would produce an inevitable result. If Huni goes in fight-sharpened against a similar standard of opposition, he has a great chance of pulling off a win. I like the fight for Huni but not if he's kept inactive in the lead-up to it.

 

Yeah Joshua/Whyte was what popped into my mind when I thought about this fight. That fight elevated both men and it could do the same for Itauma and Huni.

But then again maybe as you say neither go onto do anything or maybe the loser is the one that has a better career like with Joyce/Dubois. So many variables and a loss at this early stage in a career, really doesn't mean anything, just look at Wlad an early loss then has one of the longest reigns as champion ever.

I wish these type of fights happened more often, little to lose, far more to gain in my opinion.

Personally, I don't think there is a rush to get this fight made considering both are pretty young HW's especially Itauma but somehow god knows why the WBO have made Huni the number 1 ranked challenger, with Itauma the number 2 ranked challenger - so they both may be keen to get this fight made and fair play if so.

Both are a bit unproven themselves. Huni has shown more than Itauma in beating Tabiti and the close fight with Lerena in which Huni did show some flaws in and struggle somewhat but he will have learnt a lot from that fight. Itauma looks more exciting and talented than Huni but has beaten literally nobody unlike Huni.

For the fight itself - I think Itauma will show his talent and give Huni too much punishment early with his speed and power, plus Huni's defence and chin for me are a bit suspect - Huni isn't particularly powerful either. I think this fight is all wrong for Huni really but I think he will put up a very brave effort.

I'd have Huni winning by KO. He gained more experience from the fights with Lerena, Goodall, Leutele, Tabiti than anything Itauma has done, and has more amateur experience too. People keep saying he hasn't got power but watch his last three fights, he got all of them out of there quick. Seems like he has changed up his style a bit after going the distance a few times. I could see him catching Itauma before Itauma catches him. Who knows maybe Itauma is great but it's all hype right now.

 

I think Huni has fought more Itaumas than Itauma has fought Hunis. I'd pick Huni in the slight upset. Good fight.

 

But look who he fought in those last 3 fights where he got stoppages, Pilcher 9-0-1 fought 2 guys with winning record and drew win one of them. Robutti 11-6 had been stopped 5 times before, 3 times inside the first 3 rounds. Potgeiter 10-1 got stopped in a round in his other loss.

Huni's opposition dropped back down to pure journeymen level after having a scare against Lerena, that's why he started stopping people again. When he steps up the opposition again I suspect again his power will look average at best.

 

Huni beat Lerena in with a close UD. It says everything about him. Itauma massacres him in 3.

I'd rather see Itauma vs Kabayel or Itauma vs Dubois.

 

This would be a great fight and I have no idea who I would pick. I think I'll have to give it to Huni though because of his extra experience in the amateur and pro game. He has been on much trickier spots than Itauma has and still pulled out wins.

Huni UD in long, gritty fight which favours the more experienced fighter. I'm not sold on Huni's chin though and Itauma is fast so he could easily get the win here.

The fight doesn't make sense atm though. The division is on the cusp of opening up when Usyk retires and both guys are young without losses. They could easily get title shots in the next couple of years just by playing it safe.

 

Would be a great fight. And might be over quickly, either way.

and Ituama… he’s so fast, and his power appears to be very much real. He’s such a wildcard until he’s proven.

 

Huni confuses the hell out of Itauma and boxes his ears off to a UD, 9 rounds to 3.
