There Is way too many super talented fighters over the years. Some we lost way too young that never saw their true potential. I chose the top 20. I would struggle to put him in the top 10. I am no boxing knowledge genius though.

Yeah I agree with this Joey.

Put any top upper echelon 210-220 pound fighter like Tyson, Holmes, Ali, Holyfield, against Usyk's Heavyweight opposition

I see no reason they wouldn't run the gauntlet vs Dubois, Joshua, Fury, Chisora.

Fury especially gets way overrated on this forum and people say Heavyweights have evolved ?

Imagine thinking a Heavyweight with love handles and trunks up to his arm pits it's peak evolution what a joke.

And yet none ever did. We judge fighters by what they actually did not what they could have done hypothetically

Usyk was essentially 35-37 and already past his prime when he became undisputed at HW and he did it in his opponent's backyards or on the road on a deck heavily stacked or stacked against him vs giants who held huge or obscene physical advantages over him

And in addition to that he did it without having to jack himself with PEDs like so many of these multiple-weight champions and greats have done to help them bridge the gap, much smaller gaps than he has when it comes to most of them, against bigger men in higher weight categories to enable them to become multiple-weight champs and greats

And with zero deck-stacking and via the application of pure skill and clean boxing not fouling, cheating and octopus grabbing his opponent's to death like many other of the so called greats

And even though he's fought lots of savage punching KO artists and legit bangers and was already past his prime when he won his first title at HW (you know, in a division damn near all of you were adamant he stood little to no chance of winning a belt in vs these giants, let alone becoming undisputed in and being the dominant HW of his era) he still hasn't been knocked down or badly hurt by a headshot which is something a minuscule amount of champions in boxing history can boast, let alone still boast when they were in their late 30s.

Hell, most were either badly hurt, knocked down, knocked out or even spark out in their primes and by fighters their size, smaller or much smaller and by fighters even a senior citizen Usyk would toy with and never get badly hurt, dropped or knocked down by and that's some real dubbly bubbly real talk.

    But eight fights.

I'm not re-litigating what was already said. He has wight wins (that I can prove, don't have access to WBC ratings) against ranked opponents. The Schwarz argument reverses things- now you are talking the importance of name over rankings, in which case you do have a number of guys on there who had good runs.

The standard you guys are pushing is names that you like Ring magazine, and that is not any kind of standard.

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield beat a lot of bigger guys but I get your point

Sure but any sane person should agree that in reality those 3 were not among the best 10 heavyweights in the world. If you want to adopt a different criteria that gives fighters some level of credit for beating top 20 or 25 opponents outside the top 10 that's a different matter.

Maybe top 10 is arbitrary and some level of credit can be given for beating guys just outside the top 10 but that's a different issue than claiming Schwarz or Hammer were among the best 10 heavyweights in the world when the evidence heavily points otherwise.

Moreover I doubt these guys ratings have anything to do with Furys decision to fight them. He didn't face them because they were ranked and if asked probably couldn't even tell you who rated them. Ge fought them because he saw them as easy opponents who would make him money and let him stay active without posing much risk

You can then say he's so great, it took him only 6 fights to become undisputed in the heavyweight division. Not even Evander Holyfield and Leon Spinks could do it.

I think hypothetical comparisons are starting to be a bit off putting for me. The whole put Tyson Holyfield Lewis today's era against who Uysk faced is so speculative. It's kinda fun to speculate but also kind of pointless at the same time..

    More like 16, actually.

His six World Series of Boxing fights were all against guys who were big heavyweights (Fa, Joyce, Nistor, etc.) and those were all supposed to go on the boxers' professional records, and DID, initially, because they were professional fights. Five rounds, three-minute rounds, pro rules, and they all got paid. But the top amateurs who lost demanded they be removed.

And he had at least three pro fights at heavyweight (Mendoza, Crenz, Rodriguez) before he fully committed to going after the cruiserweight belt.
