Does anyone feel the same as me that Seniors lack of support for his son is going to impact juniors performance on Saturday? From what I have read he won't be at the fight either. Will be tough to have been almost disowned by your own Dad (why, I don't l really know) and have to step into the ring to face 2 snarling Benns and a leering Hearn. Or will it give junior more motivation to prove his Dad wrong and to humble both the Benns?
Sr is a poorly man, best place for him is away from all the cameras and the media of this fight. Jr will be just fine, his dad hasn't been in his corner for a while now, Jr seems pretty strong minded. He will be fine.
Snr has never been right. He needs some serious help, but whilst there's money to made off him he won't get it.
I think you will find that once Jnr started taking control of his career and thus his life, the relationship became permanently fractured and has never recovered, as Snr must be the one in control of everything. In 2016, Jr. was on the verge of being launched on the road to becoming a PPV star on Sky by Matchroom, but the scenario would have likely only materialised if Jr./Snr had signed a long-term deal with Eddie; had he signed, his career would have been steered differently. Instead, Snr interfered, and thus the Golovkin fight was made, as fast-car simply had enough and tried to cash in on the momentum already built on the back of Junior's recent performances and appearence on the AJ undercard. It's ironic that the fight never happened, not because Snr knew Golovkin would physically body his son and possibly cause permanent damage, but simply because Snr wanted a larger share of the purse. Anyone wanting to know the kind of person Snr truly is, just go watch that reality series that he did back in the day. Those kids had a messed-up childhood, privileged or not, and it's no surprise the daughter is with fast cars' protégé.
Thank you for your explanation. I had no idea things between the two of them had become so deeply fractured. Hope they can work things out in the long term. Life is short and a boxing career doesn't last forever. Seems like Jr desperately wants his father's acceptance, but never really had it - sad really. Genuinely hope Jr smashes Benn on Saturday though!!
He’s positioned ready to set the fire alarms off before the ring walks. Then bashing through in his Peterbilt truck to be arrested with a slogan about Hearn being an attempted murderer.
I strongly disagree that he’s never been right. Eccentric, bizarre, no doubt about it. The first time I remember really being concerned for his well-being was when video appeared at an event a few years ago where he was dancing as if he was off his tits and constantly putting lip balm on. It was sad seeing everyone there taking the mick out of him. I assume it was after Seb’s death but it could’ve been before. He is very unwell and I really hope he gets help before his story ends tragically.
Bottom of the barrel scum filming him, smiling and joking etc. It was in between Seb’s death and being sectioned.
I assume Jr is taking a gamble that he'll come out as a folk hero for winning this fight - basically on his own against the Matchroom establishment, Nigel, the "casuals" etc. He's not the most likeable chap but he's been pretty dignified with the whole Sr chat and all the fake friendship from the Benns saying "fathers and sons should be together" is nothing but cheap mind games. The Benns and Matchroom know this fight only sells as a family affair because it's British title level on its own merit, they're the ones constantly talking it up.
I really hope it is all a ploy by the Eubanks, they know everyone would like Snr to be there because everyone keeps asking if he will be... I hope Snr is at home right now polishing his walking cane and monocle ahead of his appearance walking his son out, can you imagine the fans reaction if he did, they would raise the roof!! One can only dream though really...
There would be tears rolling down cheeks if the Great Chris Eubank Snr suddenly walked down that aisle with his walking cane after a famous victory for Jnr. I've always like Jnr on a personal level. His dignity and class and also the toughness and focus. I remember his street fighting video when he was a teenager when other teenagers had made fun of his dad. He is his father's son and has had a decent career despite limitations at top level.
Senior seemingly got the help he needed after his son’s death, however he is a narcissist and displays narcissistic behaviour. He can’t accept his son wishes to go his own way and take the spotlight for himself, so he’s acting out. Eubank is a guy with an interesting, unique personality which as we know society likes to shun anyone different, I don’t think his quirky character is mental illness.
I think you're bang on. It’s clear there’s a massive emotional cloud hanging over this fight for Junior. Senior not being there, not just physically but mentally and emotionally too, has to cut deep. You can put on the bravado and act like it’s all fuel for the fire, but at the end of the day, that's your old man. The guy you grew up idolising, trying to live up to, trying to impress. When that relationship breaks down so publicly, it's not something you can just block out, no matter how professional you are. And you're right, it's not just stepping into the ring with Conor, it’s like walking into enemy territory. Nigel Benn looming around, Hearn grinning like a Cheshire cat, some of the crowd probably leaning towards Benn too. That's a hell of a lonely place to be without your old man backing you up, even if it’s just by being in the building. That being said, there’s a stubborn streak in Junior. Always has been. He’s been a man on his own mission for a while now, carving out his own path whether people like it or not. Maybe, just maybe, this whole mess gives him that extra bit of spite to not just beat Benn, but humiliate him. Like a “**** you” to everyone. Benn, Hearn, the critics, maybe even Senior himself. But pressure is pressure. And emotions don’t always behave how you want them to. If Junior pulls this off clean, given everything swirling around him, it’ll be one of the most impressive wins of his career.
Yep. Agree with all that. I am really rooting for Jr in this one, Hearn and both Benns and now the weigh in issues must be tough to block out. If Jr wins this, he will really demonstrate just how good a professional he is and how mentally tough he must be. Hope Benn gets a lesson in humility tomorrow. I'm in NZ, but will be up early to watch this card.
