How do you see a fight between Wilder and Young? Do you think it's possible that JY is an absolute awful fight for him, one where Wilder gets schooled and embarrassed? Or is wilder underrated and Young over?
To me, Wilder is extremely underrated. He only lost competitive fights with Fury until he was 38 years old (every other fighter at 38 is given a pass for loses). Wilder was shot as a fighter at 38. Since he turned 38 he has lost to Parker and Zhang. Younger, quicker Wilder didn't do conventional boxing. He used his length and quickness to create and close distance and he kept his power from the first round until the final bell. The prime Wilder would be a severe test for any heavyweight in history. He was the most dangerous fighter at heavyweight I've seen. Young is not overrated, good boxer, and good fighter. It would be interesting to see if Young could avoid Wilder's big punch but it is doubtful that Young could make Wilder "fight" him at a distance where Young could be effective. Young's defense would allow him to survive for awhile, but Young probably wouldn't be able to mount any offense that would keep Wilder honest. Wilder would probably occasionally attack Young with some big punches and keep Young on the defensive, but most of the time, Wilder would be too far away for Young to do anything offensively. Wilder was fast, quick, long, and explosive, Young was good, and he had enough punch to keep people honest who fought him, but Wilder wouldn't be there for exchanges or to be jabbed. Wilder just had too much speed, length, quickness, and power for Young.
Pretty bad opponent for Wilder stylistically. Young's jab would be a major obstacle for Wilder but I could see a war at the same time.
Wilder has a small chance of beating everyone but his small chance of beating Jimmy is noticeably smaller than that.
Young was very adept at evading guys who could throw very sound right hands in terms of both speed and execution. He could definitely give Wilder fits. One thing about Wilder though, his rights could be so wild that they could connect on illegal areas of the head - areas that boxers don’t necessarily defend or at least areas that are much more difficult to defend. Wilder could perhaps land one of those rights on the top or back of the head to seriously buzz Young. It wouldn’t be legal but then it seems Wilder got away with quite a few of those type of shots during his career.
