I suggest you watch what happened when they did fight.

Yeah, that was not at welter, and that was not a prime Durán

Pretty sure Hearns couldn't have made 135. He was drained half to death to hit 147. There's a vid you can find of a weigh-in of his where he scales in at 145 and gives his trainer a look of absolute hatred.

It's a meme. Duran is usually great at everything, feints, infighting etc. So posters sometimes say ''Roberto Duran deserves a mention'' even when it's in ridiculous scenarios such as "Which Lightweight beats this ATG Light Heavyweight''. I even sometimes say it randomly in threads that are in the middle of a discussion war for shits and giggles, without any conext.

In this case though, I decided to say the opposite, because you know.

He often said that he had no trouble getting down to 145, at least not when he was younger.

What's another 10 lbs? He could get dehydrated and quickly rehydrate after weigh-in. He might lose some muscle, since he didn't have any fat on his body.

He would still have that long reach and jab His right maybe not as strong, but it wouldn't need to be against lightweights

“We were both self-assured and cocky,” recalls Leonard. “The weigh-in was shocking. I weighed in at 146; he weighed in at 145. And it got my attention that he was so light. I looked at him at the weigh-in and said, ‘I’m gonna kick his ass.’”

“Ray tried to get under your skin, to get you crazy,” says Hearns. “I was getting tired of him trying. And really, the way he would say things motivated me.” Afterwards, some wondered if Hearns had been too light and perhaps over-trained, but Tommy sees that as a non-factor. “When I trained, the weight just dropped off me. It was never a struggle to make 147 or any weight. The weight would just drop right off.”

Hearns was great, but basically you have to move to your right the first 3 rounds or so to avoid his big right, had Duran trained for Tommy and done this would have been a much different result. You cannot move conventionally to your left or he will splatter you, the only other option is to go for broke as Hagler did.

A next day weigh-in Primo could do it.

Going for broke worked for Hagler because he could take Hearns' best shots. That would never work for Duran.
