I don't think there is, IMJL. I would say not one.

So, then any lightweight could beat him at 135?

Hearns did fight at 132 as an amateur.

It could work for Duran if he had done it but wasn't his style he was always a slow starter. Hagler was hurt badly in the first round btw no matter what he tried to say.

Maybe Shane Mosley? On his best nights (at 135 and then at 147 against DLH) he was slick and powerful. Hard to bet against the Hitman to be fair, but I’d give him a chance.

    135 or lightweight?
    No. Not one.
Most 135 fighters were simply to small and would be overwhelmed by Hearns.
Though skill wise they actually could be a better more complete boxer.
Hell, at welterweight only two beat him at that weight, because of his extreme advantages of height, reach speed AND power. it was the Sugar Ray that beat him and that other Sugar Ray fella in my opinion, the vast majority of welterweights would be dominated by Hearns.
Nothing is impossible, but a lightweight beating Thomas Hearns is as close to it as possible.

I can never see the logic in counting guys that fluttered for 5 minutes at a weight. There's always extreme examples.

I wouldn't back any 135'er to beat Hearns, no.

    Q. Could anyone from history beat Hearns at 135lbs?
    A. Yes, of course, the best LWs in history should be favoured over the child versions of Hearns that could safely make 135lbs. If the prime version of Hearns made 135lbs, he'd need to go to a hospital, not in a boxing ring.

    Q. Is there anyone who ever made 135lbs, at any point of their career, that could beat prime Hearns at 147 or 154lbs?
    A. Imo, on the balance of probability, yes.

    Q. Is there a career LW, who made 135lbs at any point from their mid 20's onwards, who I'd give a realistic chance of beating a prime Hearns at 147lbs or above.
    A. No, of course not.

Eh… he got caught cold once but it doesn’t mean it’d happen again, ignoring the fight everything suggests so IMO. Things like that have happened in the old days but now and at that time of there fight it took more to get a fight together so a quick rematch was off the table. Joey Maxim had an iron chin and he was KO’d by the “Hatchet Man” in a round the rematch was very different.

Well, Sugarc Ray Leonard was close to 135 during the 1976 Olympics. He was about 140, so losing another 5 wouldn't be hard.

Heh Matt, I'm unsure of the revelance of this to what I posted. Was it intended to challenge any of the questions I asked and answered myself? If so, how, please?

I stated there are fighters who made 135lbs at some point in their careers, that I'd favour over a prime Hearns at 147/154lbs, and that I wouldn't favour a career LW (who made 135lbs from the age of their mid 20s onwards) to beat a prime Hearns at 147/154lbs. Your post doesn't seem to challenge either of those contentions, unless I'm missing something?

I'd give Montreal Duran a chance vs welterweight Hearns, when he was still a welterweight, Hearns was still a bit young and inexperienced,he can hardly recover from a hard punch as he doesn't had that much of a knowledge inside the clinch, then Leonard, despite having to eat his jabs still managed to find success wearing him down with body blows.

Duran's favorable plan would be making Hearns go into his bicycle mode early with rocking shots, then he'll need to pack up a ton of body shots as much as possible until the hitman's bicycle tires popped, and then brawl with him while also being cautious of that right.

After seeing Forrest handle Mosley twice pretty convincingly who had similar dimensions to Hearns except Hearns did everything better pretty much.

    I'd say quite confidently no.

Mosley had quick hands and good power but his overall boxing IQ was not on the upper echelon level he wasn't good adjusting in fights and he was pretty much neutralized by Wright, Forrest, jabs.

I actually think Hearns could be one of the few people to stop Mosley if Mosley gets in the same kind of trouble he did vs Forrest in their 1st fight there's no way he gets left off the hook.
