The video is in the article too. People are quick to have opinions and can't even read the whole thing.
A lot of people were saying that in the 80's. "Good old days I was a part of were better" type of BS. Now you got some 90's fighters claiming Usyk wouldn't be able to hang with them.
Sounds like the quote is taken out of context and Holmes is referring to their respective comebacks. Just more click bait in the cesspool the internet has become.
Dealing with the "Larry Holmes is a Top 3 All Time Heavyweight and Never Ducked Anybody!" crew is the closest I have ever come to leaving this forum in disgust in 15 years of being here. Completely delusional take. Got beat by an old washed up Norton but got the belt because of King, lost to pudgy novice Witherspoon, lost to novice Carl Williams and spent 1982 onwards looking to fight the least threatening folks the networks would take. If he could've gotten an Ibar Arrington rematch booked or a fight against Lupe Guerra or Candyman Johnson past ABC, we'd have seen him carrying the IBF belt in against them. The historical revision about Holmes is fascinating in its delusional nature. He was a decent champ who was a disciplined guy with no scandals and looked at the fight game as a business and was careful to protect the belt as a result. No shame in that until he starts wanting to be seen as some fearless Hagler-esque champ who lined 'em up 1-10 and mowed them down.
If you look at their respective comebacks one is clearly more "fraudulent" than the other and it sure ain't Georges.
I definitely saw Holmes saying things of this nature about George Foreman years ago and he was saying nice things after his death. Holmes had a style that probably would have caused Foreman a lot of problems but he never got the chance to fight him. This is just digging up old news.
Ohh he STAYED bitter about that one too. Lol In a group interview post Tyson KO with Frazier, Ali and if memory serves me right, Norton… Holmes did a pathetic attempt at completely dismissing Tyson like he was a bum. Interviewer basically asked him if he still feels in his prime, he could beat Tyson and Holmes said “Everyone in this room would beat him” and Ali said in a low tone of voice “Speak for yourself” But it was obvious the other guys were kind of cringing when Larry started going off on a bitter rant towards the guy that completely separated him from his senses.
Lol. Even way back when, you kinda got the vibe he could be a tad bitter about things Even though I respected Holmes as a fighter, I was never ever a really big fan of his personal character. I was never a hater by any stretch, I just never really took to him.
So he bigs himself up for beating a barely conscious Ali and then gives himself a pass for losing to Holyfield because he was past his best. Sorry, there’s no getting away from this for Holmes. He’s a piece of ****. Thanks for posting those man. That’s all the evidence anyone should need.
If this is true and not taken out of context what a total tool. The man is stupid beyond imagination.
Holmes has talked this way for a long time. Claiming he's the greatest and all the other ATGs are lesser than him.
