Ryan vs Rolly: incredibly dull. Ryan was dropped and then basically quit. How he got outboxed by Rolly of all people is almost impressive. What makes this even worse is that this was supposed to be a tune up before the Haney rematch which is now completely ruined similar to Wilder losing to Parker in anticipation of the potential Joshua fight. Guess Ryan is simply garbage without his enhancements...? Haney vs Ramirez: another yawn inducing affair. It was like both guys were worried if they threw more than 10 punches the stadium would be struck by lighting. For a guy who spent so much time whining about how he was robbed in his last fight and wanted to put his name back out there, this was an absolutely ridiculous performance. You've got the whole goddamn planet waiting to see what you can do, and you stink up the joint giving the haters even more reason to hate you. Canelo vs Scull: I already didn't want to watch this fight because I already knew it was going to be lackluster. I was having flashbacks to Lara vs Canelo and my mind's eye told me it might go a similar route. I had no idea it would be this bad. I can't even call it a "glorified sparring match" because I've seen actual sparring matches that looked like Hagler vs Hearns in comparison. Scull didn't show up to win, he showed up to survive and get paid like many Canelo opponents in recent memory. An annoying, negative, cagey, safety first style constantly moving with shifty upper body movement and never throwing more than 1 punch at a time focusing on simply scoring just enough to catch the judge's attention, then go back to running or hiding behind his guard. Whitaker, Pep, Mayweather, hell even Jimmy Young wasn't this ****ing boring and negative. They all were 5x busier and threw 5x more punches even when they got old. Wtf was that??? I would rather watch ants mate while suffering from COVID than watch another Scull fight. And Canelo doesn't get off the hook either: he did the bare minimum to win never getting out of 1st gear. He knew he'd get the benefit of the doubt from the judges so long as he was the aggressor and kept Scull honest being busier and going to the body. He made zero effort to please the crowd or try to break Scull down. Something needs to be done. Maybe from now on, anytime someone throw under 20 punches per round they lose 20% of their purse. Imagine making history for having the record for the fewest number of punches thrown in a 12 round fight.
And they was just "aight", so if we're grading this weekend on average it gets a failing grade. Especially because those weren't the main events.
Shout out to Martin Bakole. Star of the weekend. Despite showing up too fat, his conditioning was fine, and he was ready to scrap. Tried everything to turn that into the firefight we all wanted to see. Even kept calling out Ajagba mid-ring for being a runner. Again, he’s got that weight issue going on, but you cannot say he didn’t do his best to give his fans the fight they wanted.
Yeah he gave his best but he needs to watch his diet. If he didn't take the Parker fight and had just stayed on course for the Ajagba fight he likely would've won and probably even stopped Ajagba.
yeah that stoppage loss messed with him. You could see in the first few rounds where he was hesitant. Then he relaxed and went on the attack.
It was bad and then Inoue and Espinoza saved it so shout out to them. Showed how great boxing can really be!
100%! Little guys showed everyone what’s up! I just got back home from the fights and it was great to see the little Monster in action and even better that this card was the “main event” of the weekend.
Would watch.. that’s the problem with the NYSAC. You had some lousy ref literally keeping Haney alive.. NSAC won’t tolerate no BS..
I mean Garcia was gonna fight Manny... if the pay is right, Inoue should take that fight in a second.
Wish it would have happened… instead Pac passed the baton to Errol Spence, and Spence screws it up with a detached Retina injury.. Good job Errol….Goood Job.
