I have to admit, I never realized he was #2 all time.

Amazing that this record still stands all these yrs later.

1 can't help but wonder if & how many more defenses he could've had if his reign wasn't interrupted by the war for 4 yrs.

 

I think the records of Joe Louis, Khaosai Galaxy, Myung Woo Yuh, Henry Armstrong are really amazing and they will still be there in 50 years easily...

Take Dariusz off the list, it's incorrect. The WBO wasn't a major title in the 90s when he held it

 

Hate to be that guy but I somewhat dismiss title runs such as B-Hop's when there are multi-titlists. It's just not the same as Joe Louis or Marvin Hags or Monzon defending their title.

 

Well it's like the IBF it was not a world belt prestigious like WBA / WBC but now it's one of the four majors federations in the world...

 

It wasn't recognized as a major belt until 1999 by any sanctioning body. That's after he held it. So his defenses aren't legitimate defenses of a world title

 

on boxrec they're listed as title defenses, we all know everything that is on boxrec is legitimate, set in stone, and arguing otherwise results in immediate execution.

 

Artur Grigorian holds the record for lightweight at 17 defenses.

 

Well yeah, they fought five or ten times a year. It would take modern fighters five careers to fight that many times. There's nothing stopping them but the pay per view money. Modern p4per champs would simply have to throw away 99% of their money, fight five times a year for five years, and they could do it.

 

But what does it look like when you put the multi-weight champions in? Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hearns, Jones Jr. and their kind? They put up 20 something too spread over several divisions. Likewise, most of these guys only had one piece of a title. The unified title defense list looks completely different.

Sugar Ray Robinson had 12 at middleweight and 6 at welter. Roy Jones Jr had 5 at super middle and 7 at light-heavy. Hearns had 16. James Toney had 6 at middle and 3 at super middle. Archie Moore had 9 unified.
