Great talented fighter who had one great win against Donaire whose style worked perfectly for him but ultimately squandered his entire career. Not a one hit wonder by any means but a huge waste nonetheless given his immense potential.

He made Donaire look stupid when Nonito was on a hot streak and was p4p #2 I believe. It was shocking.

Very interesting that a significantly faded Donaire who was brutally stopped by Walters gave Inoue such a good fight.

    All fac
One twist though is Inoue beat Donaire at 118, his greatest and most dangerous weight class. Rigo was dropped by Donaire at 122, at 118 who knows if he gets up.

As a side note, Donaire is proof some fighters should go down in weight late in careers. Going back to a weight class were your power and strength is unmatched is not a bad idea

Rigo and Donaire are both natural 118s. Rigo was at 122 to get the Donaire fight and some others which didn’t materialize. Same result at 118 or 122 in this case.

Rigo was blackballed after taking out Donaire. Easy to research.

It's 4 pounds. How much does it really matter?

They were both 118 in theory, but both had been in 122 when they finally met. I just think Donaire’s speed and power at 118 was superior than any other weight class, as evident by his ability to KO opponents within a few rounds as soon as he went back down.

Rigo would still be the better boxer. But Donaire’s true speciality was his power (left hook) and athleticism (speed). At 118 is when those qualities were at their peak.

It’s somewhat debated, but pounds matter more in smaller weight classes due to it being a bigger percentage of the body. Look at Donaire’s KOs at 118 vs 122/126. Things got noticeably tougher at higher weights. As soon as he went back down to 118, he started koing fighters within 4-6 rounds

Btw sorry my comments haven’t answered the original question. Rigo was sensational in my view, the eye test alone makes me rate him higher than his resume.

I would put him as a slight 55-45 favorite over Inoue. His skills are almost like a fencer, perfect defense with master pinpoint accuracy and power.

They each enter the the ring at the same weight as usual whether they're making 118 or 122. Any difference in ko power for Donaire is due the 122 opponents getting bigger. It's the same reason why Inoue keeps getting dropped there. But Rigo was always a true 118 who didn't cut much weight for 122 fights.

He was blackballed before fighting Donaire really, but Donaire had the balls to finally take the fight after winning the other 122 belts.
