    Hate to say Wilder here......

    That hurt...

He has a manufactured belt win from a buffet king, and miserable title defenses, but 5 years as WBC champ with many defenses on accomplishments alone does it.. unfortunately

    Hi Buddy.
Thinking the title should be who is better, the term greater, doesn't align with either fighter imo.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.

Joyce amassed a far better resume in far less time - had a far better chin and broke a far greater chin (Parker) than anything Wilder managed.

Wilder had a belt - he rendered it fairly meaningless by refusing to use it to make good fights.

Joyce is the greater fighter... Pisstake or not, you could argue Wilder has greater accomplishments.

Not a fan but Wilder goes down in history as WBC world heavyweight champion with a 5 year reign and being 10-2-1 (8 KO’s) in world title fights. That’s a legacy… Joe Joyce gets remembered as nothing more than a contender who never fought for the title. No contest.

Wilder would have KO'd Joyce, I'm sure. Joyce is indestructible, man mountain, walking juggernaut of humanity, can't be stopped. Zhang one-punched him, but just a bad matchup.
As Joyce was walking forward like a juggernaut, face first with no defence, Wilder would do what he did to Ortiz's head when it lingered in front of his RH for a few minutes while Ortiz was trying to operate his brain.
Joyce would go down and roll around a bit.
Then they'd have a rematch and Joyce would get KO'd again.
The headlines would read, 'Juggernaut Joyce Actually Pretty Rubbish in the End'.

Hate to say it but it has to be Wilder here, even his defeats to Fury elevate his resume to an extent, and Joyce has never been a world champ.

Might have been different if the Juggernaut wasn't completely derailed in - let's face it - ill-advised back-to-back stoppages from Big Bhang Zhang, but at least Joyce too on the challenge to be fair.

In terms of boxing skills and smarts they have some similarities, with both being highly-flawed fighters with a single exceptional attribute that allowed them to excel; Wilders nuclear right-hand, & Joyce's seemingly titanium mandible.

Neutralise / take those two attributes away from them, and they become very ordinary flawed fighters, with low-ring IQ and almost no adaptability.

Was Wilder's reign manufactured? To a significant extent, almost all reigns are (A-side, home advantage, matchmaking etc.)

But Joyce couldn't have followed Wilder's path. He'd have taken enormous punishment in his first 39 fights, especially from Stiverne on, and then he'd have got dominated by 30-0 Ortiz, who he was kept away from even after Wilder had KO'd him a couple of times.

He'd also have got schooled by Fury, there would have been no chance of a robbery draw even.

The same logic applies to Chisora. Stiverne would have likely beaten him given he dominated Arreola twice. Ortiz would have almost certainly beaten Chisora, who admitted to ducking him and said he'd never fight him. Fury would have shut him out or stopped him first time round etc.

No American heavyweight since Holyfield could have matched or exceeded what Wilder did and Holyfield had major problems with southpaws, so maybe Ortiz stops him from even getting to Fury.

    This is an interesting thread
Some posters rate titles higher than opponents for example

What are the 5 best wins for both?
    My guess possibly something like

Joyce - Dubois, Parker, Takam, Jennings, Stiverne

Wilder - Ortiz, Ortiz, Stiverne, Breazeale, Washington

Commonly opponents - Zhang, Stiverne, Parker

I think Joyce has the better wins
    Wilder obviously more fights

I think it is easy to make assumptions as one was around for a longer period of time and held interest by holding a title but I think a good argument could be made for Joyce with the greater wins

    Both lists are pretty dire.
