    I needed a laugh today.

Next thing you'll have him beating Ali. If not Godzilla.

You RJJ acolytes are about as wearying as the "Nolan Ryan is the GOAT" acolytes among baseball fans. RJJ does not beat those two men at ANY weight.

Well they’re unconventional claims. I think Toney beats Foreman but I got drunk and had a whole thread about it… could you break it down?

His response was a little rude but so is “get real” - let’s hear what he has to say it’s an open forum, just a chance to talk the sport this is the right place to say and contemplate the outlandish like nowhere else lol AND it’d be interesting to read Benny Leonard said he learnt watching the amateurs at time so why not take a chance on a guy like @GlaukosTheHammer and give his ideas some air? GTH break it down, it’d be interesting to read if nothing else.

Going into his fight against Jones Jr., Ruiz’s only realistically perceived advantages and potential threats to Roy were his superior size and clinch/maul game.

Ref. Nady’s “Don’t you daresn’t touch Roy” approach pretty much effectively removed the bullets from Ruiz’s gun as far as clinching/mauling went - as such, it was no surprise how the fight unpacked thereafter.

As far as scanning for a former ATG HW for Jones Jr to beat - I certainly wouldn’t be looking to one Floyd Patterson as likely or easy pickings.

Roy might have some moments early in the fight but I think Patterson, uber fast himself and battle tested at HW, catches up with Roy before too long for a chilling KO.

Tarver KO'd Jones at an age that Marciano had already quit the game, too beat up to continue. Let's stick to Roy's prime, when he had his quicks intact. And I'll take that version to clown Marciano, win every round and cause a mercy stoppage.

Plus Tarver probably hit harder, shot for shot, than Rocky. Fast-twitch plus leverage. Blame physics, don't blame me.

RJJ is one of the most overrated fighters of all time.

He was great, no doubt but when I see people suggesting that he’d beat Liston and Foreman I know that the world has gone mad. Jones lost to Danny effing Green inside a round FFS. Sure, it was nowhere near the best version of Jones (it wasn’t the best version of Green either, who was really just a blown up super middleweight) but it was also right after he’d beaten Jeff Lacy and just before he went the distance with Hopkins so he wasn’t completely washed either.

I’ll repeat that for you, Danny Green knocked Roy out in the first round. But somehow RJJ beats all-timers at heavyweight?

FMD, some of the people posting in here.

    two points...

1st - back in the day the 5'11", RJJ IS a Heavyweight Fulltime, he is a natural eitherside of 200 lb man, he is not passing through MW as a young fighter, he IS a L-HW cum HW full-stop... he is fighting all the Top L-HW's & HW's in history here, he is fighting Every Month or so, for at least a Decade.

    2cd - Tarver

this is not a pick whom you want from history and "the Modern" - fighting Down in weight, because you've got Months to do so Roy Jones, NO! ... this is doing precisely the same as all of your peers in said eras, which is FIGHT - OFTEN.

a Tarver Comes along a lot quicker than it did during Roy's own time.

when people do these scenario's they rarely do them right, in Era Context... today's MW's are L-HW's back then, many of them HW's, so they are fighting all the Conn's, Charles', Lloyd Marshall's (the 1940's RJJ) and Jersey Joe Walcott's of history... an absolutely different outcome for Today to Then.

RJJ's would be a Rated fighter, I'm sure of it, he might even be a World Champion, but you know what?

    He Might NOT!!!

Just so long as Toney gets a couple or a six pack of cheeseburgers before taking on Foreman, he will have the energy to deal with Foreman. Mind you, Foreman himself realised that instead of cutting water, eating burgers, was a more reliable way of cultivating that ATG boxing strength. He was much stronger in his comeback ;)

Marciano, Dempsey, Johnson, Johanson, Schmeling, Sharkey, thats about it off the top of my head.
    Caveat.
Dempsey and Marciano would be a very dangerous stylistic match-up for Jones Jr.
Their aggression to pressure consistently, and ability to absorb punishment and continue to fight effectively would make them extremely dangerous for Jones Jr.
    Especially over 15rds.

That was the high watermark for Jones.

People were talking about him being a potential P4P GOAT.

He was being talked about as a potential opponent for Lennox Lewis.

There was a momentum building for a Jones Tyson fight, which in hindsight could have benefited both men's legacies.

Thankyou Mr Tarver for bringing people back down to earth.
