Why is Roy Jones Jr chin considered so terrible?

What a dumb post. So Toney never ever landed ONE right hand on him throughout the entire 12 rounds?
When Jones and Gerald went toe to toe in the amateur ranks did Jones get knocked out?
Nobody was gunning for Jones when he was an up and comer making a name for himself? Those hundreds of pros that Roy worked with while Jones was still an amateur never landed anything on Jones?
Hopkins landed on Jones in the first fight did Jones get knocked out?
Father time knocked Roy out and once it was gone it was ALL gone and Roy foolishly fought on.

Initially I blame being weight drained moving back down to 175 after beating Ruiz was a huge mistake, if he wanted to move down he should have stopped at Cruiserweight. I think secondly, it was a combination of slowed reflexes AND a mental thing. I think he became gun shy after the first knockout by Tarver. Now some guys like Hasim Rahman who have suffered highlight reel knockouts, don't get afraid of taking a punch. Roy unfortunately did.

Like most of your posts. You just really don't know too much about boxing and it shows.
I actually have seen Roy Jones spar and get hit genius and he didn't get knocked out or stagger around the ring.
To imply that someone never got hit because they were so fast and that they really had a weak chin once they lost there speed is just dumb.
James Toney landed 157 punches on Roy and not once was Roy in trouble.
Hopkins in the first fight landed 153 punches on Roy and Roy was not ever hurt.
But somehow Roy had a weak chin.

Again you can't say anything because you can't back anything up.
Jones fought heavy punchers in his prime and never got knocked out. Deal with looking dumb once again.

That's awesome. Now go make a thread about how Joe Frazier had a really weak chin because Foreman stopped him twice.

One person where you could use an example of not really getting hit too much because they were so fast was Hector Camacho.
Once he really got hit flush and hurt he became ultra gun shy.

I imagine for fans of the time his post Tarver era was a feverish nightmare they couldn’t wait to end.

Brother Toney was so drained it is comically obvious but because it holds the RJJ resume together so nicely people just won’t let it go lol.

Toney was drained. Hopkins was green. What other excuses are there?
Toney got outclassed its really that simple and notice he never said a word about a rematch with Jones because he knew the outcome.

I don't think that Roy ever had a great chin. But the myth that he was glass jawed, is just that.

Why did he get knocked out?

Because he took flush shots from good punchers.

    Look at the Tarver shot.

    That was a beautiful shot.

    Perfect.

To me, that exact shot would have knocked out most LHW's. Not all of them, but most of them. And Roy was a former MW.

Look at the Lebedev knockout. Those 2 punches, and especially the final one, would have knocked out most CW's. And Roy was 42 at that point, and just a shell of the guy he once was.

Look at the Enzo Mac one. Again, that would have knocked out most CW's, and even some HW's.

So Roy wasn't getting knocked out because of a glass jaw. He was getting knocked out, because he was vulnerable with no defence.

I think that only a handful of guys could have taken those exact shots.

Go and find a 46 year old former MW, and let him stand up to flush shots by Enzo and Lebedev.

The only ones which were a little suspect to many people, were the ones against Johnson and Green.

The Johnson one was at the side of his head. And the reports from the medical staff, was that he was completely dehydrated.

The Green one didn't look that hard, but he followed it up and Roy seemed unsteady.

To me, it just doesn't wash that he had a glass jaw.

If that was the case, he wouldn't have gotten back to his feet against Tarver and Del Valle. Also, Toney and Ruiz would have hurt him, when they landed flush.

He got knocked out, simply because he was hit flush by big punching fighters, up at the higher weights, way past prime.

It wasn't his chin which let him down. It was his style of fighting. Carrying his hands low, with diminished reflexes, where he was so vulnerable and defenceless, he was literally giving guys free shots.
