Probably right, hence Wilder deserving the benefit of the doubt. I still wouldn't be shocked to see him decline even further very rapidly.

To see it happen "very rapidly", he'd have to be losing to the kinds of guys he used to actually beat...

That's not really what's happened so far, though.
So far he's just fought guys better than he'd ever beaten and lost every time - on some level, it could be partly that his levels been exposed.

Yes, he looked pretty bad doing it, and at his age it's likely there's some decline involved, as well as his mentality/confidence being weaker... But... To see clear decline, he'd need to be losing to gatekeepers or journeymen, and he hasn't done that yet.

If he fought Ortiz a third time and lost then given Ortiz' own physical decline that would show he's fallen a bit... To be fair, I wouldn't even hate seeing that fight at this point .

Depends if Wilder has anything left in his power, Allen is slow as molasses including his feet, so Wilder would have ample time to line him up for right hands. Prime Wilder would knock Allen out of the arena, this current version I’d be tempted to put money on the lazy rhino.

Allen is far too hittable even for a shot Wilder.

Despite his detractors, Wilder beat much better opposition than Allen.

Dangerous Dave Allen v Washed Windmill would be a cracking undercard fight on 19th July.

You might be right, but that’s got nothing to do with this thread.

It's hard to back Dave here because he has no reach, comes forward slowly and is pretty stationary. So Wilder has a lot of opportunity to throw big RH's at his head.
But I suppose if Dave dodges enough of those to land his bolo punch or do some sneaky shots inside he might get the advantage.

Wilder is beyond shot, I think Dave wins this.

When did Arreola ever prove to be "levels above" Allen?

It seems like Allen is getting crazy higher rated by a lot of people for KOing Fisher. Johnny Fisher is not that good, his best win by far is Babic (not counting Allen for obvious reasons).

You have to give it to Wilder here, even as old as he is, he has beaten way more guys that were better than Fisher, and been 12 rounds with champs like Parker and Fury.

It's not that Allen is world class, it's that Wilder is beyond shot. Allen is ok on his day (KO'd Browne in 3, Fisher in 5) and he's shown a great chin and heart, with a lot of high level experience now. Very few could stand up to the beating Ortiz put on him for instance, Allen would have made the distance in probability if the ref hadn't stepped in at the end of the 7th to save him from unnecessary damage. He gave a more experienced Dillian Whyte a 10 round war, even though he clearly lost.

I think a great fight for Allen would be Richard Torrez, I'd say Torrez is better and should win but he is hittable and if this turn into a slugfest ,, who knows?
