Holmes was fading by that time but was still dangerous. Thomas had the ability to take him by that point but his problem was inconsistency. Pinklon as he was the night he beat Tim Witherspoon could have scored a close decision win over the 34 year old Larry but if he came in at anything less than his best it would be Holmes who pulls out the win.

If I bet on that fight back in 84 im going with pinklon Thomas via 15 rd Dec for Holmes ibf belt !!!! I think Thomas jab is hammer … and Holmes reflexes a bit on the decline and not training as hard for fights coming in 222lbs in 84 compared to (208-lbs - 215 lbs in prime ) .!!!

At that point it really is a tossup. The master class that Thomas put on Witherspoon in 1984 confirmed he was truly world class even if short lived.

If he gets Holmes before the drugs wrecked him, he wins. That's why Holmes turned him down.

His jab was heavier but nowhere near Holmes Jab like people like to pretend. Holmes Jab remained a major weapon for Holmes when Holmes was almost in his fifties.

Thomas should win comfortably. Holmes did not want it.

I'd mildly favor Thomas in 84 if Dundee was in his corner.

Heavier that's it. Holmes jab was still faster more accurate and he used it more effectively. I was also a fan of Pink but Pink was a one armed fighter. A one armed fighter isn't beating Holmes even if it's a past his best version. Holmes still did basically everything better than Pink at this point.

I don't know if there was a formal offer but Holmes flat out said that he wouldn't fight him. That was the period where Holmes said that he would only come back if they give him someone he can beat.

I know he only looked for easy fights for as much money as he could get at that point. I thought there was an offer on the table.

Holmes wasn't his best at that time but he wins a tough fight, why? because he was mentally tougher.
