Actually funnily enough a lot of the “weak” HW era fighters Sanders, Ortiz, Vitali, Ruiz Jnr, Whyte, Wilder and Povetkin would all be really good picks for this question? @cross_trainer I could easily see say Buster Douglas doing this but not say as confidently for Ken Norton, Buster Mathis Snr, Jerry Quarry, Cockell, Layne, LaStraza etc I think MAYBE Jersey Joe Walcott could be a man on a mission here?

JT was always a 180lbs-190lbs guy at heart and a former football player, he’d be a big LHW come HW back then IMO that is without all the weight manipulation he went through, so I can see your point.

Not sure how serious you are, you’re probably not lol… Machen probably gets him but he could maybe get Williams, Patterson and Zora 3/4 for me but they’re all 50-50 in my head I don’t like that gamble.

Nah, but more seriously, @NoNeck's pick of Ortiz is probably the most interesting one so far from the standpoint of playing the game. Stylistic advantage that only the moderns have, size, consistency, power.

Overkill guys like Joshua would be funny just from the standpoint of seeing the little 6'0", 195 pound heavyweights' reaction to him. Entering an era where 213 pound, 6'1" Sonny was considered big, a skilled and athletic superheavyweight like Joshua would be something else.

I do think some of the better Boomer contenders might go through Liston's opponents as well, but you'd have to wait for the 90s until you can pull out contenders to speedrun Sonny's competition. IMO.

He has experience facing old versions of Williams (twice) and Zora. They don't have equivalent experience against him.

But no, not all that serious.

Imagine actually being dumb enough to believe this. Foster wouldn’t step in the ring with any of Liston’s opponents with a top ten ranking. He beat zero opponents who were rated in the top ten. Hell he couldn’t beat all of the non-ranked cherry picks that he actually did face.

He very nearly got knocked out by a shot Williams in their rematch but of course according to OP, he’s no less than 50-50 against him despite having a much worse record.

The only dummy is you - you have enough trouble speaking for yourself let alone on behalf of others - I’m pretty sure there’s a few who desperately wished that you hadn’t spoken on their behalf……

Proffering a one night only Douglas and a Haye IF he turns up defeats the purpose of the question of that compares Liston’s own successful run in the real world. The above qualifiers explain exactly why in irreducible terms.

For mine, Liston beats one night in Tokyo Douglas at any rate.
