Mario Thomás Barrios vs. Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao

July nineteenth, at last official. WBC welterweight title at stake, second defense of Barrios after being promoted from interim champion.

Pacquiao last fought professionally in August of 2021, losing a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugás Hernández. This will be the Filipino legend's first match against a Mexican since his fourth fight with Juan Manuel Márquez in 2011.

 

Pac can win but he probably loses an 8-4 type fight.

 

Manny looked flat footed and lethargic 4 years ago against a basic fighter in Ugas, so I fail to see how he’d look much better in his mid 40s coming off 4 years of ring rust.

Barrios decision most likely

 

Massive Pac fan, doubted him against Thurman a few years back…but would realistically be kidding myself to be able to vote for him here.

I like Barrios, but don’t really rate him too high realistically, but this is more about what Pac is at this stage.

personally, I always thought the Ugas fight would be a lot harder than people thought. The way he beat the snot out of Figueroa showed that even if the smaller Pac could get inside, he was in for trouble. So I don’t think that performance figures in to my calculus that much.

No idea what this will look like.

I'm going against the grain and picking Pacquiao I see Barrios in his last fight get beat up and dropped by a fringe contender. He stands straight up and is very robotic if Pacquiao can produce even 40 percent of the old magic he will school Barrios.

 

We only need to look at the last few fights of legends that stayed around for far too long to see how this one goes. Barrios is not impressive, but Manny's era has long gone, and he's 46. I think Barrios stops him. Joppy vs Duran style. Fight should not have been sanctioned until Manny had a warm up fight against a fringe contender so we got an idea of where he's at.

 

They better be letting Pacquiao have all the best juice money can buy to try and even it up a little. The guy is 46, and fighting above his natural weight class, he looked flat against Ugas years ago, who lost to Barrios himself a couple years back.

I'd love Pacquiao to come out with a vintage performance and win it, but I just don't see how unless Barrios gets injured or is drinking everyday in camp or something.

 

I hate to say it as I’m a huge Pac fan, he’s a legit ATG and a credit to the sport. Barrios is gonna **** him up pretty badly in my opinion. Pac looked awful against Ugas. The years that have passed since then aren’t going to help. Barrios can fight too (I’ll add that pac would have made easy work of him in his prime obviously).
