I think the Euro contingent are just too overexcited they have a legit ATG fighter on their hands so they rate him too high right now. Usyk does not rate as high as Hopkins. Mayweather, Jones, Whitaker or Chavez. They've all had greater careers no matter what weird selective criteria one wants to use.
This 12 ranked wins is not greater than 20 plus. It's simple arithmetic Now if usyk had Foreman, Ali, Tyson, Holmes etc among the 12, then sure quality prevails, but he doesn't. I concede there is some quality, especially accounting for size, but not enough to live up to other fighters, who have 20, 30, maybe even 40 plus ranked wins Great fighter, but miles from goat with his stats
B-Hop had a 28 year career, Usyk a 11.5 year one so far 65 fights vs 23 Gee I wonder which one has more depth Interestingly, when B-Hop moved up 2 divisions to face bigger men how much bigger than him were they actually? Tarver 5lbs heavier Dawson 4lbs heavier Pascal same weight Joe Smith 7lbs heavier To be fair to B-Hop he did actually fight outside the US in his opponent's backyards a whopping 3 times out of those 65 fights which practically makes him an Uysk level road warrior by elite US fighter standards Let's not forget he was an extremely dirty fighter, like Extremely Dirty with a capital E and D, and of his 5 weapons his best punch was his head Usyk wins all his fights via the use of 2 legal weapons and through the application of pure and legal skills with zero use of dirty tactics On the dirty fighter scale Usyk is a 0 and B-Hop 100 If Usyk and B-Hop were the same size there's only one winner and it ain't the guy from Philly
I'm not trying to be nasty to you but i think you need to delve deeper into the resumes of some of these fighters. Mayweather resume ODLH Diego Corrales Jose Luis Castillo Ricky Hatton Manny Pacquiao Miguel Cotto Canelo Alvarez JMM Zab Judah Arturo Gatti Shane Mosley Genaro Hernandez Marcos Maidana Angel Manfredy 5 weight division champion, 26 world title wins. Arguello resume Ruben Olivares Alfredo Escalera Vilomar Fernandez Rafael Limon Bobby Chacon Cornelius Boza-Edwards Ruben Castillo Jim Watt Rolando Navarrete Jose Luis Ramirez Ray Mancini Andrew Ganigan 3 weight division champion, 19 world title wins. ODLH resume Pernell Whitaker Julio Cesar Chavez Hector Camacho Fernando Vargas Arturo Gatti Ike Quartey Ricardo Mayorga Oba Carr Wilfredo Rivera Rafael Ruelas Jorge Paez John John Molina Genaro Hernandez 6 weight division champion, 26 world title wins. Hopkins resume Felix Trinidad ODLH Antonio Tarver Kelly Pavlik Jean Pascal Winky Wright William Joppy Howard Eastman Glen Johnson Keith Holmes Antwun Echols John David Jackson 2 weight division champion, 27 world title wins. Now i'm not saying everyone on the original list necessarily rates above Usyk but i would have the above fighters i listed above Usyk for having considerably more world title wins. Usyk has a good resume which i'll list here. Usyk resume Tyson Fury Anthony Joshua Daniel Dubois Dereck Chisora Murat Gassiev Mairis Briedis Tony Bellew Michael Hunter Marco Huck Krzysztof Glowacki 2 weight division champion, 12 world title wins. So whilst Usyk has good achievements in regards to beating bigger men he has less than half of the world title wins of 3 of the fighters i listed above. Again it's all opinion based but i personally do not rate Usyk above the likes of Mayweather, Pacquiao, ODLH, Hopkins, RJJ, Hearns, Duran, Arguello. But Usyk has not retired yet and he can further cement his greatness with some more notable wins against Parker and maybe Opetaia. Overall Usyk is a top 50 ATG as it stands today, top 15 Heavyweight of all time, top 2 Cruiserweight of all time, and i don't think i'm being unfair with what i said. In regards to the eye test and how he matches up H2H he could be higher but that's down to your criteria.
Honestly there should be no HWs in the P4P top 50 if we're being honest. I don't follow a lot of the smaller weight classes and don't know a lot of the fighters being disrespected but I know they are being disrespected. Having a 6 3 220 pound CW/HW double champ as a P4P great is a deep peversion of the whole idea.
It isn't terrible, and it isn't great. If he wants to be remembered as great, he's got more work to do, and a couple of fights with Joshua would even now be a good boost. But at the end of the day, the best heavies before Usyk were Wlad, Joshua, Wilder, Parker, Ruiz, Whyte, Povetkin, Chisora, and very briefly Hunter. He has beaten for of those fighters seven times. Are three of those Chisora..yeah. Is that a weak era...sure. Does it hurt that he ducked the Wlad rematch...yeah...although to be fair, he didn't duck, it, he couldn't pass drug tests. Am I the first to say Deontay was overrated...I literally was. But it's still a good body if he wants to come back and add.
They really are pretty decent. I am just going to point out that Chisora has been ranked on again and off again for over a decade, and Wallin has also been ranked more than once. This is going to get into the Ring magazine vs Ratings board thing again, and that is fine...I respect your point of view that the Ring Magazine ratings are better, even if I don't agree. But they were literally ranked in the boards that could and did get them title fights, and they both beat decent guys to get there. Cunningham I like. He was a cruiserweight champ, and he should have got wins over Ademek and Glazkov at heavy. Won't argue that one too strongly, just say that I like the win.
Another brilliant post of facts Never trolls, unlike me and many others. Just puts across his opinions with good research Absolutely a credit to the forum. Even if I disagree with him, I will know he is not speaking from bias and believes what he types Keep up the good work I don't like to ball lick on a forum, but you are a good poster
Agreed! You have that quality in yourself, as well, but at times you undermine it with your trolling. I get the frustration with certain posters and fanboys and their ridiculous comments, but in this day and age, the lowest common denominators have access to the internet and they damn sure use it. BTW, who is your avatar? He reminds me of an older Brett Favre or Mel Gibson.
