Taylor was always massively overrated

Spence has always been comically overrated. Hilariously so even. And he is and always was packing glass

Tons of people had Spence P4P#1 or #2 for a long time

Taylor fought Crawford's best win in just his 13th fight when he had only fought one past prime world champion before, had 0 world title fights, and had never been past 9 rounds before. Conversely, Crawford was 28-0 when he fought Postol, was taking part in his 7th world title fight, and he had been 10 rounds a bunch of times and the full 12 round distance x 2.

And Crawford stunk the joint out vs Postol. He was on his bike all night in mortal fear of getting clipped by the wind of a punch from a fighter with a KO 32%

Taylor became a world champion in 15 fights
    Unified in 16
Undisputed in 18 (one of only a handful in the four-belt era)

Spence didn't even win a world title until his 22nd fight and unlike Taylor who actually won and unified all his world titles vs actual career 140 pounders and defended them against actual career 140 pounders and fought big punchers a bunch of times, Spence forged a career cleaning out 147 of its career 140 pounders and blown up 135 Mikey. Spence still to this day has only beaten 2 career 147 pounder world champions and he struggled badly against both even though one of them (Brook) was damaged goods.

After beating Brook he defended his world title (s) against one other career 147 pounder world champion in his entire six year reign

He looked great against all those career 140 pounders and 135 Mikey but struggled badly the only 2 times he fought career 147 pounder world champs and that is hardly a coincidence

And he barely fought any legit punchers, especially ones his size, when he was on Mission Clean Out 147 of its Career 140 Pounders and 135 Mikey

    Embarrassing

    Brook KO 65%
Ugas KO 37% career 140 pounder who came up
Danny KO 52% career 140 pounder low KO% at 147
    Mikey KO 71% blown up 135 pounder whose KO% above 135 = 0
Peterson KO 41% career 140 pounder
    Algieri KO 31% - career 140 pounder
    Bundu KO 32%
    Van Heerden KO 36%
Ocampo KO 60% even Spence admitted Ocampo had no power
    Lo Greco KO 47%
    Porter KO 47%

He was always soft chinned. Hence why he'd been hurt numerous times by light-average punchers at best, especially at 147, and had to spit his gumshield out to buy himself time to recover.

Crawford dropped him with a jab for goodness sake.

Egis, peg-leg cripple Benavidez, Avanesyan, and double hip replacement Porter all did better against Crawford than Spence and that's just at 147.

Spence was pure PBC/Showtime smoke and mirrors hype

And a 7 fight novice 140 pound Taylor bashed up Spence's best win Shawn Porter, a razor-close life and death decision win that many felt Porter won or at least earned a draw including myself, in his own gym and dropped and sent current welter champ Ugas to the hospital during those sessions.

'There are reports of the light-welterweight seriously troubling former world champion Shawn Porter in sparring'

''I really caught a glimpse of what was to come when Josh was out with me in Las Vegas ahead of my fight with Leo Santa Cruz in 2017. Josh was sparring former world welterweight champion Shawn Porter, ahead of only his eighth fight, and I remember thinking, 'This guy is unreal' because he bossed the spar.''

''When Josh Taylor used to spar the gym came to a standstill.. unbelievable stuff! I remember seeing him as a pretty green novice professional sparring Shawn Porter in Shawn Porter's gym and punching his head in''

Personally I've never seen anything special in Josh Taylor. Bob Arum tried to throw a smoke screen out and get the public to believe he would be the guy to challenge Crawford but even I knew that Crawford would have dominated this guy worse than he did Postol, Indongo, & Horne only to give more chants of "Crawford has fought no one" afterwards.

He told on himself with the first fight vs Catterall.

He put the post together quickly to say absolutely nothing. At the end of the day, Brook alone is a better fighter than anyone Josh beat. Porter as well. I dont care what happened in sparring between Josh and Porter. If that's the case, and we can weigh sparring sessions, then I could easily list Floyd as one of Spence's victims, since a young Spence used to get the better of Floyd in sparring.

I will actually concede to Serge that Spence, too, was overrated. No arguments there. Having said, just objectively speaking, Spence was a better fighter than Josh.

No domestic level guy like Catterall would ever push Spencs's face in not once, but twice. How do you even defend two Catterall losses?

Josh does deserve credit for becoming undisputed, but ultimately Prograis and Ramirez will go down in history as nothing more than just okay fighters.

Spence, Davis, and Taylor are the three most overrated southpaws of the last decade, but of the three, Spence had the most quality.

Tottally agree. Not all undisputed champions are equal

Theres a difference between Crawford, Usyk, Inoue, Canelo and Taylor, Charlo, Devin Haney

Seems like many on this forum dont understand that

He was always a little overrated, I agree.

He became undipsuted in a weak field

Teofimo Lopez beat him comfortably and the 140 pound dvision is a lot stronger now than when Josh Taylor was reigning

Agreed. I always felt like the best quality about Josh Taylor was his engine and work rate followed by his chin and durability.

His defense was always poor and he has a short reach so he can be beaten to the punch

Very good fighter but overrated even in his prime

People give Crawford a hard time for his oppsosition at 140 (which wasnt great) but in reality Josh Taylors wasnt much better and Im not sure any of Josh Taylors wins are even better than Postol was at the time

I agree with this post but I think you are underrating Catterall and he is more than domestic level

    He is certainly world level

Kovalev was a better fighter than Josh Taylor

Kovalev will get very underrated historically in years to come
