If he fought Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Pac at 122 or 126 I think he doesn't lose all those fights and beats all (or nearly all) the guys at those weights that those other guys beat. Unless I'm mistaken, at those weights with those guy there are no glaring size/weight disparities. H2H he's well competitive in such company. Yeah as far as his pro career path, it now appears that he stepped on his dick so he'll never rate highly compared to these and other ATGs in terms of professional accomplishments. Ultimately his reach was greater than his grasp. Still one of my favorites, however.
If Loma had the corrupt A side backing he could possibly have been the GOAT. He was always up against it but always gave his best and didn't duck anybody.
Correct, but I think he would have given a good account of himself in most eras, without dominating them.
Nope. He's a great amateur certainly, but something of a disappointment as a pro. Sort of like Mark Breland, but not as dramatically so. It's threads like this that give credence to all those who hate on this guy and call him overrated.
Does he outbox guys like Duran, Whitaker, Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Chavez, Arguello, PAC, Mayweather, Sanchez? I think he loses more than he wins.
This is only my personal opinion, largely based on eye test and not necessarily his record, but Loma is the most talented fighter I have ever seen. If he turned pro earlier, and massaged his record to maximise his legacy like many before him, then he would no doubt be regarded in the pantheon of all time greats. I'm not saying he would or wouldn't beat the greats that operated at around his weight, but I'm sure he would give all of them a hell of a fight.
