I think Holyfield beats 70s Foreman is that an unpopular opinion?

For the media or not, I’m pretty sure Foreman still wailed on the bag and we don’t see Foreman hitting the bag for necessarily extended periods.

Many observers said that Foreman hitting the heavy bag was one of the most formidable sights they had ever seen - and I read that Ali’s team pointedly steered Ali away from witnessing same while George was training.

Agreed. It was a very well executed KO - plenty of force behind the right but heavy handed guys make it look somewhat effortless - though he has excellent hand speed also, Zhang fits into the realm of heavy handed, lazy power also, just imo.

Wow that heavy bag footage is conclusive. Hitting a big stuffed bag hard always is vital for being a great fighter. I mean, if you can't hit a heavy bag, then what can you hit?

I’ve always found the clips amusing, childish even they’re designed for spectators @Pat M i believe was the one who said he’d dent it with a hammer or something before people arrived to really get them going lol. when someone’s holding it they’re going “oooh” “aaah” at the spectacle of a guy punching a bag… and miss that he’s literally doing nothing of note? Marciano the clumsy, unskilled caveman on the other hand actually moved around his own stupid “media hype” bag ya know like a boxer?… I highly, highly doubt most of these guys on camera with these giant bags are using it in private… also the weight of one of these monster bags beats bad habits into new guys - Louis has the right idea, waist high bag weighing “enough” so that he can move around it and actually use it to box, although then again most of the top, top pros I’ve noticed like Toney and JCC Snr just sparred and ran, eventually they just sparred same rough idea as Holmes.

Zhang has big power and he's extremely sharp on the counter with either hand which makes him pretty dangerous. He's heavy handed alright.

    ???

No one said it was conclusive in its own right.

It was linked exactly for what it was/is in due measure.

Yes, we know Ali said that no one would be holding him as Saddler held the bag for Foreman.

But then, we did see Foreman wail away in that very fashion to Ali’s body - successfully landing big punches that Ali def. felt and that saw him pissing blood after the fight.

Of course Ali had one of the most, if not the most, resilient bodies so he was able to take them. Many would not have.

It wasn't me who said anything about using a hammer to dent the bag. It must have been someone else. I have said that the way GF hit that bag is the way he punched in the fight, slow, telegraphed punches that Ali saw coming and pushed or pulled GF, to take the power off the punches. Old heavy bags, before they had a foam layer below the outer layer would dent easily. Then, over time the canvas or leather would get weak over the dent and a hole would develop and the stuffing would start coming out and the gym owner would have to use duct tape over the hole and wrap the bag. Putting foam under the canvas or leather improved heavy bags and made them last longer.

My bad, it might have been @Saintpat I have mixed you both up in the past. I didn't know this either. What did you think of the way Ali fought off the ropes in that bout? A lot of people think it's a great showcase, in general to me Ali on the ropes and inside looks "off"? like he was making thing's harder for himself and should probably be glad it's George Foreman and not Joe Louis.

Yep Louis had faster, more accurate hands than Foreman

I once used a bag like that, I couldn’t even do push ups after throwing a few rubbish jabs at it. I was slightly annoyed at Marciano hyping it up,

Oh wow another clip of someone who can punch doing the heavy bag… this guy moves around it though my apologises so between the punching as a warning you might have to watch him move his feet, head and weave etc but don’t click off so fast he’ll go back to throwing hard punches at a bag I promise, scouts honour.

Get that stuff off of this thread. This is a respectable forum, and we only show stationary bag punching here.

Holy stops an exhausted 'young' George in 10.
Old George was smarter and more padded
