So scenario is this, Liston is making his way up the ranks, he's just stopped Cleveland again. He now meets Riddick of the Tyrrell Biggs fight. What happens? Which guy marches on? Which one goes back in line?
Oh man this one is a toughie. Bowe holds every physical advantage here, then again he got absolutely schooled over two fights by a slow-twitch schizo polack. I think i'm going with Sonny here.
I'd pick Liston to get this done much of the time. He's a rarity in that he's technically better than Bowe, there aren't that many fighters over 210 that can lay claim to that . I also think he is the puncher in the fight, with the better jab. Put all that together and you've got reason enough to favour him I think...one thing I'd be very interested to see is who the physically stronger man would be.
Interesting you think Liston can take Bowe to war and win. But then have stated numerous time how Liston gets shut out by Wladimir Klitschko. Dosn't add up. Its like you pick who you want to win , not who you think would win. If one of these guys was to beat Liston , its certainly not the man with an egg shell chin , who throws one punch at a time and mentally shatters under pressure.
Wladimir was far better than Bowe. Far, far better. You seem to conveniently forget the decade where Wlad barely lost a round against the top competition the era provided. Bowes relevant career barely made it half that time.
You have to conveniently ignore the most important factor in boxing to convince yourself of that fallacy , which is mindset. Boxing is 99% mental. You either understand that fact or you dont. Bowe doesn't fold and and panic in the presence of Liston and that gives him the edge over Wlad in the mental department. Thats just one aspect of fighting. Bowe will trade and throw with Liston. . Wlad will panic and hold on for dear life. Everybody knows that. Inside fighting , combinations , willingness to exchange , mentally superior . These factors puts Bowe in front of Wlad who refused to throw unless he has clear line of contact. There's no rationale to think Liston beat Bowe but can't beat Wlad. Thats bias talking , pure and simple. Klischko can;t even throw a combo and has no inside skills , absolutely none.
I loved prime Bowe and his inside game but he was always a very hittable guy which is not a good thing when facing Liston. I think Liston wins a brutal slugfest.
Mindset? And you want to posit Bowe as a fighter with a stable, focused mindset? I guess you weren't around in the 90's. And of course you must make every thread about your boy crush Wlad. You need to start charging that dude rent for living free in your head.
I watched Bowe Holyfield 1 not long ago couldn't believe the pace Bowe was fighting at for a man that size. I don't think I have even seen a SHW fight at that pace. But he was getting caught a lot as well.
