He was fat wasn't trying to imply otherwise with the word choice. A few of his bigger opponents you can argue he needed to be heavier to fight and knock out. But there was only like 4 or 5(Wills, Tate, Fulton, Gunboat and Andre Anderson). Unlike a Mike Tyson I don't see his build as really neccessary and think Langford was at his best in 1911 but whether he was at his best or not I can understand why he'd make such a radical change.

Langford fought at HW full time for about 6 years before becoming "fat" so I don't think that was really a factor. He made the MW limit for the Iron Hague fight in 1909. He had his only 1-2 LHW fights in 1911. Langford ballooned fairly quick from 168 to 200 in about a year in 1912/1913 never to return.

    That list definitely needs Spinks.

Carl Thompson is underrated too, he could punch like a truck at 190.

I don’t even understand your point. Mine is simple. A natural middleweight was ducked and avoided for title shots and then moved up in weight. As he challenged bigger men he no longer had to make lighter weights and didn’t . He didn’t grow but got thick and thicker. All is irreverent to the point. He was n my opinion the hardest hitter under 190 ever. His record is terrific support of that point.

In an expanded list guys like Bob Satterfield and Tommy Gomez might come into play. Maybe Tom Sharkey.

    You mean at Heavyweight?

Because the lower weights have tons of people who hit like bricks like Thomas Hearns, Julian Jackson, Marvin Hagler, Chavez, Rosario, Edwin Valero, Wilfredo Gomez, John Mugabi, Jimmy Wilde, Alfonso Zamora, Carlos Zarate, Ruben OIlivares, Tito Trinidad, Fernando Vargas, Roberto Duran, Pajarito Moreno.......

I don't know enough about Gomez but Satterfield is an excellent call. Joe Louis is somewhere quoted as saying he tought Sattefield may have hit harder than Rocky ..

Gvozdyk said Stevenson hit harder than Beterbiev, so Stevenson is up there, Marciano also, Beterbiev himself, Michael Spinks, Michael Moorer.

agreed with all of the above although with Moorer, i strongly suspect, he rehydrated up to 200 lbs or more on fight night even when he was at 175 lbs.

He wasn't a great fighter, or even close, but he's one of those guys that definitely had electrifying power.
