The other day I had some drinks with a friendly guy. We both enjoy chess and martial arts. So we decided to do a chess boxing match! He boxes once a week, for 6 years I believe. He is friendly and were going to work out a ruleset where I don't get murdered. I have trained krav maga for 2 years and we did train boxing and light sparring. Obviously my boxing is very, very, VERY basic and currently my cardio sucks too - though it used to be pretty good. I got gloves, but no bag, no partner. What would be the best preparation? The match I believe is 11 rounds: Chess 4 mins Boxing 2 mins Chess 4 mins Box 2 mins ... etc Chess 4 mins So that's 5x2 mins of boxing. I know how hard easy it is to get gassed in such rounds.
If he’s a lot better… just circle right, parry all his straights (use your right for his jab, left for his right) and wait for chess. You can make it a non contact sport with a few tricks if he ain’t overly good.
Hopefully you’re much better than him at chess, you need to break his spirit in that first round so he considers not even coming out for the second.
