Steroids was a big talking point when it came to sports in 80's. I remember those East German female discuss throwers... The movie Top Secret made a great spoof about it. I think it's from 1985. This content is protected
He did not suggest steroids were the corrupt thing...But while anything is possible, there is no reason to believe Ali used any PEDs-except the thyroid which actually zombie-fried him against Holmes.
I did not know that. But I think you will agree that his drug taking for as far as we know just his second to last fight-when he should have been retired-only hurt him. And it is different from the use of steroids to transform the body by increasing mass & power- it was a foolish, energy sapping effort to lose weight/fat too quickly.
I think a lot of members here would agree Ali could have retired after the TiM and I doubt anyone would have held it against. The wins against Liston, Frazier, Foreman, and Norton were more than plenty to assure him Elite ATG status. I'd probably call him the Greatest even just based on that.
If Muhammad circa 1972-74 was in top shape as he was in the Norton II,Frazier II and Foreman fights,I'm strongly convinced he beats a prime Real Deal.
Neither Muhammad Ali nor Evander Holyfield hits hard enough to come remotely close to knocking one another out, given how durable both were, given how quickly both recovered from being hurt. Guaranteed to go to the cards.
I mean 2 elite stamina monsters, I think it mirrors the Ali-Frazier fights. Holyfield is a bit more technical and better defensively but not quite as fluid as Frazier. Who wins? THE FANS
Ah - probably Ali? W UD W MD and LUD in a trilogy at a guess. I'm not sure, I don't think either guy fought someone comparable to the other? Ali wasn't quite as cagey / negative as Holmes on the ropes, but he was probably good enough to make Holyfield look bad there but I don't think either guy could really hurt the other? I watch the Bonavena bout and the Frazier matches even what Chuvalo was able to accomplish and wonder how it'd look inside? Ron Lyle did well mostly sticking to the basics, Norton too and Young - Terrell got inside and did nothing with Ali numerous times. I like to think that Ali would outbox him but it'd be a weird looking bout at times and while Holyfield was inside it'd be all commander but a good, educated jab like Holmes would be his foil and Ali wasn't far behind understanding that punch the way Larry did.
